who had fallen asleep at the wheel. She hit the end of a road barrier and it sliced through her vehicle like a knife and amputated her leg. The driver behind her stopped…he happened to be an EMT. He called 911 and held Cortney’s hand because he was sure she would die before help arrived. He couldn’t move her because she was in a mess of tangled metal. Cort survived the accident and lost her left leg above the knee. She won a lawsuit against the state of CA because the stretch of road where the accident happened should have had updated barriers and didn’t.

I am so sorry! But she was incredibly lucky to have an EMT on the scene. And this was an important example, hope she's doing well today. Over the summer I became acquainted with a very nice girl who is a double amputee. She does so well that it took me a bit to notice, and she's from way downstate, comes up here to work for the summer at the YMCA Conference Center on the lake, rides what she calls her "trike," a three wheeled giant of a motorcycle, so she sure gets around.
