they can cut off oil and gas to Europe, blockade shipping, and mess with ship navigation systems to cause collisions. Maybe even shoot down planes like they did with the Malaysian airlines flight over eastern Ukraine.

You'd have to be a Republican (idiot) to think Russia would invade the US like they did Ukraine. And a deplorable amount of conservatives idiots would be on the side of Russia if that would ever happen.

who used to congregate in a corner of the Red Book Store, a smoky group discussing minutiae and leaving stacks of "People's Daily World" in local laundromats and waiting rooms and even they admitted that the USSR was a right wing phenomenon, rigid totalitarian control by the people who had kicked and clawed their way to the top of the party and who became a defacto aristocracy, with powerless workers in the middle and slaves, er, political prisoners at the bottom. They weren't as wretchedly bad as the Czars and their vassals, but you could tell they were working on it. I wished them luck at developing a Marxist but unstratified society.

I sincerely doubt they are cheering Putin on these days, if any of them are still alive. Putin has seemingly resurrected the old autocracy in everything but the hopeful misnomer. So much for the farthest reaches of the left.

I'm afraid the survivalists fall into two groups: bigots and far right reactionaries. The bigots get their hopes up for a race war evwry time another cop executes a POC for the crime of running away or being too freaked out to understand commands Their hopes are dashed because the protests afterward are so godawful civilized. Far right reactionaries are absolutely certain that hordes of liberals are about to descend upon them bearing --- big words? Oh, and stealing their gunz and bibles, the former oversupplied and the latter unread. Both groups are kept constantly afraid, he's got that part right, but the only lefto preppers I know about are digging what they think are nuclear proof bunkers and stocking those to survive a hellscape of poisoned land and water and smoking ruins all around them. Why the hell anyone would want to survive in that is beyond me, but they're mostly harmless.

So Beau's got a little false equivalence going on here. He's smarter than that and needs to rethink it.
