Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (HBO) - Subway

John Oliver discusses one of the largest franchises in the U.S., how their business model doesn’t always serve franchisees, and what it all has to do with Korean dramas.

And here's a "bootleg" version of the show which contains John's opening comments on current events (State primary results - Cawthorn and Mastriano, "Things they say in Texas" ). It won't last long, as usual:

so the temptation to stop in for a visit is present on every excursion I take. I recall when it used to only cost about $4 to get a sandwich and now the same sandwich is running about $9. That's why I only get food there only once or twice a month.

2. It's been quite awhile, but I used get subs there. I figured they were better than others on offer

usually in proximity to the gift shop. I used to get them when I couldn't be arsed to make anything to take to work that night because the employee grill was pretty awful, greasy stuff produced by a moonlighting, sleep deprived short order cook. Subway stuff always used too much mayo, but it was otherwise edible.

I haven't eaten at one since I quit working. However, given the state of fast food, they're the least objectionable, IMO. It just sucks to be a franchisee, I've noticed some parts of town where they pop up like mushrooms after a hard rain.

"...this entire studio is about to smell like a Subway. Which -- as we all know -- is the exact smell of 'what if bread could fart'!"

I'm going to have to remember that line when I go for doctor's appointments at one office building which has a franchise in the lobby. For the life of me, I don't know how the staff there put up with that bouquet.

Kudos to the actors and their commitment to the bit.

I haven't eaten at a Subway since I got food poisoning there a few years ago. A mild case but I won't risk it again.

Impresssion of success.by banging up new stores despite lacking profits reminds me of Trumpsky's approach to life generally.

Nauseating.
