Reporter Says Trump's Secret Service Was Cheering On Insurrection - Ring of Fire

Author and Washington Post reporter Carol Leonnig said this week that certain members of Donald Trump's Secret Service detail were actively supporting the January 6th Capitol Riot, with some even posting messages of support on social media. Leonnig actually wrote a book on the Secret Service not long ago, and understands the agency and their behavior better than anyone. Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins explains what these allegations could mean for the agency's denial of Cassidy Hutchinson's account of the events of that day.

I was surprised that the department of justice, which was supposed to be nonpartisan, was so in tune with what Trump is doing. The corruption just went all the way down the line with Trump. That was the really sad thing about the whole situation.

She said that the two most compromised were DOJ and State. DOJ was established in 1870 after the Civil War to benefit Freedmen and still contains an important Civil Rights division. So TFG's choice for AG was a nominee who was refused a federal judgeship because of his well known views against segregation.

As for State, morale was so bad that there were mass resignations, very few applications, compromising the continuity of this essential department for a generation - not to mention U.S. relations with our longtime allies in the world.

that for a while now. We know a few police officers from states participated. Remember President Biden wanted totally different secret service when he became president. He didn’t want any around him that served tfg.

More specifically, does the Secret Service have any oversight? If so, who and how is this done?

The sideways move from Secret Service detail to Deputy-Chief of Staff, for me, doesn’t pass the smell test.

I keep thinking about how Pence’s SS detail stepped in to make sure Pence wasn’t spirited away from the Capitol.

Could the Secret Service be a type of Praetorian Guard? Become factional and fight within themselves?

What if Pence would have been successfully spirited away by Meadows Deputy-Chief of Staff and Pence not been there to certify electoral ballots? Was that part of the overall coup?

I remember that when Biden returned to office, he asked a retired SS officer to be his main guy because he trusted him.

I mean, what happens if a president has a SS officer betray him?

Fortunately, President Biden previously served for 8 years in the Executive Branch, so he likely got to know many in the Secret Service. But, like much of what we're experiencing now, so many of these criminal activities were unprecedented before TFG - he's had a profound effect on all aspects of the government and in the worst possible way.
