(12,414 posts)Anyone appearing in public with a military weapon should been seen as an immediate threat
can't believe someone on DU would even suggest such an act.
SoCalDavidS
(9,998 posts)It's working so marvelously.
ShazzieB
(16,513 posts)Threatening to kill anyone, even facetiously (which I'm not sure is the case here at all) is inappropriate here at DU. There are places online where that kind of talk is acceptable. DU is not one of those places.

(2,150 posts)Carrying a military weapon that has sole purpose of killing people, to an intended confrontation, means one thing - the carrier intends to kill with it. Especially in a situation where the target is known to be unarmed. This is not a case of intimidation - it is a nut who intended to kill. And yes, this nut case should have been shot. Face it, if he had been black, or a Democrat at a Republican event, he would definitely be killed at his first appearance.

(15,328 posts)When is it actually OK to disable someone who can easily commit mass murder?
Do we have to wait until the pin on the grenade is pulled and the device explodes?
Or the whimper of the last child has ceased?
I don't know. I'm totally against violence. But apparently a swath of people believe that it's quite all right to threaten, and use.
ShazzieB
(16,513 posts)Absolutely not.
This is DU. Proper protocol here is, first and foremost, to act like an adult.
I hate those weapons as much as anybody, but I hate flippant remarks about killing people at least as much.
azureblue
(2,150 posts)as bringing a weapon of mass murder, to an event, to confront a person you have a beef with.
The days of writing these gun crazies off are long past. They will escalate. Beto is luck to be alive.

(10,435 posts)No valid reason at all. I agree, they should be treated like the future active shooters that they probably want to be.
Why wait until they shoot more innocent movie watchers, grocery shoppers, schoolchildren, teachers, church goers, mall walkers, concert goers, coffee drinkers or anyone else just going about their lives not knowing it might be their last few minutes? The only sure way to know is when they start shooting, and that's too fucking late.

Im for sticking it up his ass, no lube, at gun point. You know, a good guy with a gun to affront that bad guy with a gun. No killing, see I can be nice.

Beto's religious practices and beliefs are his own private business.
A "Lord Jesus Personal Savior" guy with a weapon of war certainly doesn't hear the same gospels I hear in church.

(19,204 posts)Donald Trump's America. Neither are a place I want to live or have my family live.
I had an honest talk to my daughter and son-in-law about leaving this country. They're preparing, just in case. They're getting the grandchildren passports and educating themselves as to where and how to leave this shithole country behind, should it come to that.
They're both professionals and shouldn't have any problem with emigrating practically anywhere they'd like.
This crap has to stop.
SoCalDavidS
(9,998 posts)There are those who say that it's cowardly to leave America, and we should stay and fight. I feel the opposite.
A day does not go by where I'm not ashamed to be an American. I do not see that changing anytime in the near or distant future. In fact, I believe it will only get worse from here.
The final nail will be if the DOJ lets TFG and his buddies escape unscathed. I'll believe he's going to be indicted when it happens, and not a second before.
I'd much prefer to live in a country where every single day isn't a struggle to protect what remnants are left of a former Democracy. I've had enough of being Charlie Brown trying to kick Lucy's football. America has chosen it's path, and it's a worldwide embarrassment.

(19,204 posts)where there aren't any freaking guns and no one is shoving a bible in your face 24/7/365.
I can respect people's need for religion as long as they respect my need to do without it.
The damned guns.....I'm immovable on that point. This country has a sickness about their need to own as many machines as possible which project hot lead at 3200 ft/sec. toward human beings. That is a sickness and they're pushed on people like a pusher's heroin.
That I cannot abide.

(89 posts)It's a smart move to leave the USA now if you can & have the skills or/and money to leave.
Especially if you have children.
I don't see the situation here improving. Civil war is not far fetched. If the Repub's do not get the popular vote they will out & out do everything possible to destroy it. They are putting their followers on the election boards in the key states. They will refuse to certify. This fall the Supreme Court is hearing the Moore v. Harper case. This will give the Repub's the legal authority to steal elections. Sure,it's been thrown out many times before but I bet this time it will go right through with the proverbial flying colors. Redistricting, gerrymandering, blah, blah, blah. They will pull out all the stops.
I would leave if I could. I'm semi retired & dependent on SS although I still do some part time work.Social Security will be on the chopping block. They'll kill it in a heartbeat. I don't have the money or skills to leave. Nevertheless I'm going to get my passport renewed.I think people are going to want to bail out really quickly. The shit is going to hit the fan. We're gonna see a real shitstorm the next Presidential election & god knows what if the Repub's don't win/
I'd leave if I could!

(3,256 posts)He would have stripped him of his guns and had him out the door in a heartbeat. I have seen him do it. I've done it once, but I was not up to speed with his infantry skills. Miss the old Captain. He loved children and always stood up for the underdog. A former infantry company commander whose company saw over a 70% casualty rate through no fault of his own. He knew this kind of menacing behavior was unacceptable. By the way, Texas banned the carrying all weapons, including knives back in the 1870"s, So all the bullshit
you see on TV and in the movies is just that.

(112 posts)The Repubs believe that liberals are afraid of guns. I am a gun owning Liberal. I am a hunter, and precision target shooter. I don't need a 20 round magazine. I am not intiminated.
I have no use for modern military guns, only good for killing people and using up a lot of ammo fast. I am a lover, not a fighter. However I can be an effective fighter if necessary.
