I visited the USSR back in the late '80s with my grandmother and the peace group she joined. They had a "sister town" there and I joined the group on their initial visit. We met with Russian peace groups and there were many, having experienced the horrors of WWII on their own soil they never wanted it to happen again. There were statues and plaques all over commemorating those who died in the war. And there was such hope when Gorbachev instituted more progressive policies - not to mention that they were not fans of Reagan since he was so tough on the Soviets that crackdowns on their new freedoms were the result. How times have changed, though if there is still an anti-war movement under Putin, it would have to exist way underground...
