during a Klanner resurgence. Whatever it was supposed to do, it didn't work, it just pissed everybody off since if messed up an immaculate small lawn and flower bed.

The town they lived in wan't a Klan hotbed, so it most likely wasn't local. Nope, there wasn't much of a push to catch whoever did it.. However, a couple of years later the Klanners fell on hard times when their Grand Poobah was indicted for fraud and embezzlement.
