71 Commands in 13 Minutes: Officers Gave Tyre Nichols Impossible Orders

https://www.nytimes.com/2023/01/29/us/tyre-nichols-video-assault-cops.html

A Times analysis found that officers gave dozens of contradictory and unachievable orders to Mr. Nichols. The punishment was severe — and eventually fatal.

Police officers unleashed a barrage of commands that were confusing, conflicting and sometimes even impossible to obey, a Times analysis of footage from Tyre Nichols’s fatal traffic stop found. When Mr. Nichols could not comply — and even when he managed to — the officers responded with escalating force.

The review of the available footage found that officers shouted at least 71 commands during the approximately 13-minute period before they reported over the radio that Mr. Nichols was officially in custody.

The orders were issued at two locations, one near Mr. Nichols’s vehicle and the other in the area he had fled to and where he would be severely beaten. The orders were often simultaneous and contradictory. Officers commanded Mr. Nichols to show his hands even as they were holding his hands. They told him to get on the ground even when he was on the ground. And they ordered him to reposition himself even when they had control of his body.

When they first pulled him over. I wonder how much roid rage is involved in all these out of control cops. I see ads for steroids and testosterone boosters on teevee, sold at walmart.

I think there is something to the lack of cognitive functioning among the magat crowd and these supplements. I know that a whole lot of cops take some kind of supplements for body-building purposes. There are consequences for taking them, some are worries for the future and some are immediate but not acknowledged, like roid rage.

I've been saying this for years. Every single complaint of excessive force should command an automatic test for steroids. Immediately, and if you say no, you surrender your badge and gun.

Adrenaline definitely pumping there - but that Steroids could play a factor is also possible and should be not overlooked.

bulk up and work out at the gym and steroids are like candy at most gyms.

Being pepper sprayed really seemed to piss them off.

That led to the later beating. One of those cops evens said I hope they beat his ass. If there is ever a civil trial, that statement is going to feature prominently in it.

They were sent out on the street to rough mostly young black men up and hopefully find drugs and weapons on pretextual stops. Everyone one of the Scorpion's Squad prior encounters should be reviewed. I am also very interested in how many times body cameras became obscured (like in this case). We really wouldn't have understood the real horror if we didn't have the eye in the sky video that showed a modern lynching.

It also seems they are having difficulty getting their story straight on what constituted the original reason for the pretextual stop that turned into a felony stop (guns drawn). How many other times were citizens approached in such an aggressive fashion without justification?

Shot after a series of Simon Says commands because he tried to pull his pants up while crawling along the ground.

No cop was convicted in that killing. $8M settlement.
