(22,692 posts)Where are these books and what is going to happen next? How far away from burning are we? How long before he orders the destruction of all the dictionaries in Florida?
Will he confiscate mobile devices next? Block access to the web? Despotic and deranged politicians around the world have tried such, will he?
The money, time, effort and thoughtful consideration that went into selecting and providing these books is nearly impossible to measure.
If he will remove books he will not stop. He is dangerous.
I feel angry and very sad for the children. What a lesson this is teaching them!
So many can't afford to spend money for books or even newspapers. Access to literature, information about endless ideas and resources for some are only available through libraries.
A counter narrative to this totalitarian bullsh¡t needs to be dispatched and pronto! Clearly, DeSantis is intent on destroying our country and he's not alone.
Is anyone pushing back on this? Bless Texas Paul but we need an army to fight this attack on our Democracy.
Goddess help us.
Thanks for sharing this, Rhi.

(205,493 posts)I can remember going to the library as a kid, I picked out what I wanted to read, nobody "supervised," let alone the governor of the state! Even in the summer, we were encouraged to read, the local library had a summer reading program and my brother and I both participated.
And it's not just kids in public schools, he wants to dictate what's taught in colleges, too! At that point, shouldn't students be responsible for what they want to study?? At my school we certainly were. I cannot believe how these extremists are attempting to dictate how the citizens of their state - or country - are attempting to determine how we live our lives, raise our children (or not), and interfere in the most personal of decisions.
