Healthcare should not be this way!: The happiest day for me was when I turned 65, she said. At midnight, I cried with joy. And two weeks after that, I had to have gallbladder surgery.

(2,962 posts)tears of joy and relief, but I didn't wait until 65. I took Social Security and Medicare when I was 62. For over ten years I was without medical insurance. During that time I developed diabetes. It runs rampant in both sides of my family. One cousin lost a foot to it. Another their eyesight. I think they were in the situation I was. Too many people are in that situation in this country. It's quite frankly obscene. And the rich keep on getting richer.

(2,962 posts)If you can't get Medicare at 62 then I didn't get it because I didn't apply for disability. My husband was on disability at age 63. I took SS at 62 and continued to work part time until I was 65 when my boss cut my hours and I quit. I was overjoyed today to see that they capped all insulin at 35 dollars a month. I don't see how these poor people have been making it. My diabetes is still controlled by oral medication.
I'm glad it has worked well for you - it's the way it SHOULD work - yes indeed
