they're like pie filling that holds the shape of a fry until you try to pick it up.

hey this OWL (old white lady) is no stranger to either and IMO sweet potato pie wins hands down, and pumpkin makes a very good side dish too

There is just no comparison, except they are both orange in color. Anyone who thinks otherwise has quite obviously been the victim of a poor SPP recipe (or a very bad cook).

Pumpkin makes good bread, too, and cookies. And the pie is okay. But SWP is simply heaven in a pie crust.

I've heard of one recipe that includes chocolate. That would rock.

My secret to Sweet Potato pie is to bake the potatoes twice. That gets the natural sugars up.

I have had sweet potatoes baked.. Pumpkin pie goes great with whipped cream. I guess Until I have had sweet potato pie, I would have to decline my opinion.

I'll have to try it.

(At my house, my husband goes for apple or blueberry pie and my son goes for Hershey's Chocolate Cream Pie or chocolate cheesecake... I can just imagine what they'd say if I gave them sweet potato pie when they refuse to have sweet potatoes even when baked with brown sugar...)

16. Actually, if you live in the South, you have had sweet potato pie across racial lines.

I never tasted one until I went to college in SC. My roommate's, old white Granny served it to us; and it was awesome. Hands down, sweet potato pie is better than pumpkin pie... Shoot there's that song that goes... "sweet potato pie and I shut my mouth.." Its a great song that we used to play at parties, normally towards the winter months when we were forced inside, and drinking shots to warm up from snowmobiling... And all of my girls would get crazy with the song like we were doing our best karaoke impression, dance on coffee tables and pick roll up a magazine, or grab a whisk and use it as our fake mics. It was always great fun. Normally, over the top, drunk as hell white, VT fools, underage drinking at someone's home. Always great fun.

Anyway, I didn't actually have sweet potato pie until being in the South. And it is wayyyy better than Pumpkin Pie. If more people tasted, I think it would win over Pumpkin Pie most of the time.
