Sen. Sanders: 'Nobody is happy about the 14th Amendment...but it beats where we're at right now'

This week, Sen. Bernie Sanders led an effort along with 10 Democratic colleagues in the Senate in signing a letter urging President Joe Biden not to cave in to Republicans’ demands and to invoke the 14th Amendment in order to avoid an historic default.

“Nobody is happy about the 14th Amendment as an alternative, but it beats where we’re at right now,” he tells Ali Velshi, as debt ceiling discussions reach another stalemate. Sanders says that the attempt by “right-wing extremist Republicans” to force budget negotiations tied to the debt ceiling talks is “unacceptable” and that what they’re doing “is holding the world's economy hostage.” - Velshi - MSNBC - Aired on 05/21/2023.

Seems odd they'd want cuts now when they can cut everything they want in the 2024 budget. jimfields33 May 2023 #8

That invoking the 14th to avert a debt crisis is unconstitutional. I’ll leave that to the talking heads. I often find myself using left handed (or opposite) logic.

There is no doubt, regardless of interpretation, that, per the 14th amendment, defaulting on our debt, IS UNQUESTIONABLY UNCONSTITUTIONAL. And thanks to American hating trash we are having this conversation. They’ve come along way since the last administration. What changed?

And the Republicans' aim is not to "defend and protect" the Constitution - or this country, it's now to "own the libs" and oppose any ideas that come from the Democrats regardless of the devastating effect this could have on the country - no matter that decisions made by TFG had the same result.

Or, in a nutshell, they are incredibly evil stupid people who don’t work for the people who elected them. Pure Evil. Downright hitlerian and proud of it.

They're all in for only opposing any and everything that will hurt Democrats instead, that's their only raison d'être. And I'm represented by one of them - Santos supporting Stefanik.

But he is just as evil. Jake Laturner. Bought and paid for. His 22 election was against an awesome Dem candidate. Laturner got the money to smear and lie incessantly.

Just before that last election, she held a rare telephone "town hall" - and afterwards the truth about constituent input came out. Anyone who disagreed with her or asked questions she didn't like was blocked.

No doubt learned that in freshman Republican congressperson class. Taught by unwoke upperclassmen.

She got national attention after appearing on TV alongside him - and she hasn't looked back since.

Desperate times call for desperate - and perfectly legal - measures.

The Republicans are still seeking ways to disrupt/overturn the government and they must be stopped whatever it takes...
