(1,703 posts)The presidential records act. The other presidents had two years to go through records to establish their libraries. I have not heard one word about the butt opening a library. He wanted them to bid on what he had without the government knowing exactly what he had. Now, he says they were all copies. Who copied them? Copying top secret documents has to be illegal. Where are the originals? It was legal cha cha. If anything he said was valid, there would be no case. Hes covering his own backside.

(206,268 posts)And I don't exactly understand what Lawrence intends to get from this "attorney." He's still being obstructive. And it appears that we know more about the protocol for classified documents than this guy does. I heard Hillary Clinton explain it once and it stuck with me. They get to read it, either in the SCIF or under supervision, and then are required to give it back after reading it. No copying, no taking it home, no sharing it with foreign powers, it's just not that difficult.

Pure garbage. The other presidents promptly returned their documents when requested
I also dont know the validity of what the lawyer was saying when he implied that a copy of a classified document was ok for him to keep
Is it even legal for trump to make a copy of a classified document? If I heard correctly that is what trumps ex attorney was saying, and makes no sense to me

(206,268 posts)I suppose it's news to talk to a TFG lawyer who resigned, but you're right, he's still arguing defense - as if he's still working for the disgraced twice impeached now-indicted former president. And we know what TFG has said, everything he did was perfectly fine - which we obviously know is blatantly untrue. All this guy is doing is arguing with Lawrence - we know what really happened and so does Lawrence.

Rhiannon12866
(206,268 posts)And there is no defense, TFG stole classified documents which he was not allowed to have, he lied about it and jeopardized national security. And he's still saying he had the "right" to keep these documents - which is why Jack Smith is going after him.

(206,268 posts)Going into explanations about how these rules and laws are supposed to work, only to be met with more tangents. It was very frustrating to listen to. Lawrence has patience...

(21,657 posts)But maybe he quit because he knew that the gaslighting was total BS and would fall apart in court. It's one thing to gaslight in public on TV, but quite another to succeed with that in a courtroom.
BTW, off topic, but how bad is the air over your way?
Rhiannon12866
(206,268 posts)And Lawrence has experience in government. And it's likely just as you said, he can get away with his BS on TV, but not in a courtroom.
And I was just discussing the air quality. I was out for most of the day and it looked like a bit of a haze. What bothered me was my eyes burning a bit, though it start to rain a little. I'm about an hour north of Albany and I was told that it was worse there.

(21,657 posts)we got a strong wave of smoke overnight on Tuesday night. I woke up on Wednesday morning with a fire odor inside my apartment. The windows were closed. So I blocked off the air drafts at the windowsills and wore a surgical mask until it let up around noon. Kept my cat in the kitchen and bathroom, away from any windows.
Local reports say that there will be repeats of smoke waves like that as wind currents shift. We're on an air quality alert until Saturday.
Rhiannon12866
(206,268 posts)And we've had an air quality alert for the past few days, but when I just looked, it's gone for my area (north of Glens Falls) and points north (Lake George), but the alert still stands for Saratoga and Albany. I'm wondering if that's because it's supposed to rain here, off and on, for the rest of the week. It started just before I got home around 7.
And it does seem odd that points south are the areas retaining the alert if the problem is coming from Canada.
Here's the article from the local paper:
Canada wildfires making air 'unhealthy' in Glens Falls area
GLENS FALLS A series of intense wildfires throughout Canada has cast the state of New York in a potentially dangerous haze of smoke, causing health officials to issue air quality warnings across much of the state.
Its no secret that New York is facing extraordinary air quality conditions right now, said state Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Basil Seggos during a press conference Tuesday. The sky is hazy, visibility is terrible, and you can smell the smoke in the air.
By Wednesday, the federal air quality index (AQI) has become increasingly worse, causing Seggos and state Department of Health Commissioner Dr. James McDonald to issue an unhealthy air quality health advisory for all regions of the state except the upper Adirondack region. Advisories are issued when the air quality index measure more than 100 parts per million of pollutants in the air.
That means that the particulate matter has reached a certain level in our breathing air, which is of concern to all New Yorkers, but in particular people that are in sensitive categories, Seggos said. Were recommending New Yorkers to minimize outdoor activities, if at all possible. Go inside, avoid strenuous activities in the outdoors.
Conditions continued to worsen Wednesday, as Glens Falls and Saratoga Springs and even Lake Georges AQIs measured in the Very Unhealthy category, according to the AirNow online quality monitor operated by the Environmental Protection Agency. The Glens Falls AQI level was at 232 as of 11 a.m., according to airnow.gov.
Dr. Gary Ginsberg, director of the New York Department of Healths Center for Environmental Health, said the type of particulate matter that is being carried over from the wildfires is called PM2.5, which consists of tiny solid particles or liquid droplets in the air that are 2.5 microns or less in diameter. (For reference, the average human hair is around 50 microns in diameter.) They can travel far, and penetrate areas fairly quickly.
It can also penetrate pretty deeply into our lungs and make it harder for our whole respiratory tract to work and effectively bring in oxygen, Ginsberg cautioned. It makes the work of the heart more difficult.
Ginsberg said that health officials are primarily concerned with the immediate effects of PM2.5 exacerbating existing conditions, but long-term effects are still being studied.

(21,657 posts)which was from the Alberta fires according to a report on a Buffalo TV station. It was high in the air and did not affect air quality.
It got worse here on Tuesday evening as a result of the fires in Ontario and Quebec. They are both right across Lake Erie and Lake Ontario from us here in the western part of the state. During the day on Tuesday, the sky was not just hazy, but the edge of the horizon was rosy pink. No clouds, but the sun was barely visible through the haze.
When I woke up on Wednesday morning, the smoke had reduced the view from my apartment windows and gave the air a grayish white look like fog or a snowfall. My apartment is a few floors up with no building or trees next to it so that the view extends for several blocks. But on Wednesday, the view was reduced to half as much. The inside air smelled of fire. My head ached and my eyes were irritated - indoors! After I blocked off the window drafts, I wore a surgical mask indoors until conditions improved in the early afternoon. Kept the cat away from the windows.
Weather reports are blaming a cold front in Canada for pushing the air toward us and keeping the smoke from dissipating. It's supposed to get better by Saturday.

(206,268 posts)All he did was argue with Lawrence - who knows his stuff. And this lawyer quit representing TFG, though apparently a lot of them do, no big surprise. But even so, he still felt obligated to defend TFG's actions. Maybe he has colleagues who still represent TFG, though none of them seem to last vert long, no big surprise. They can't defend the lies and the disregard for the law.
