(68,556 posts)hates it and you will get scratched...I put on a winter coat backwards, gloves, a hat and a scarf no matter what the season to put him in the Kitty carrier...to take him to the vets. He has to go this month...oh boy...not looking forward to it. He is he sweetest cat ...was a stray kitten and so affectionate but not if you pick him up

(34,136 posts)At most he weighs about ten pounds, but turns into a small buzz saw if he does not like the way he is handled. He's mellowed as he has aged - he's now fifteen and a half years old - but he is still feisty.
What's annoying is that I will arrive at the vet covered in scratches, warn them about him and he is totally meek while they are handling him. I'll bring him home, he tackles me around the ankle and bites me as punishment for taking him somewhere in his carrier!

(34,136 posts)Who was perfectly charming and friendly until anyone tried to restrain her. I warned them, recommended that they leave her in the carrier until they were ready to give her the shots. I recommended full battle gear before they opened the carrier.
She was very deceptive, would purr and let you stick your fingers through the bars of the carrier and pet her, purring the entire time. But once anyone tried to hold her WATCH OUT!
I dropped her off one morning and about ten I got a call to come pick her up. The woman at the desk was bandaged up and grimaced when I told her which cat I was picking up. Despite my warnings, they had attempted to transfer the "sweet purring kitty" to a holding cage with no protection. Barn kitty shredded the woman so bad they took her to the hospital. No stitches but lots of wound cleaning.
I got a notice they had put in a report of a dangerous animal on my barn cat!
I changed vets after that - if they would not pay attention to owner's recommendations, they DESERVED to get shredded, IMO!

(68,556 posts)forget it ...he will shred me and he likes me. When I was a kid we had a siamese cat named Sheba...she was older may nine of 10 when my sis got married in Seattle...we were gone for a couple of weeks so she went to the kennel...when we got back the lady there was very defensive and very scratched up all along her arms...turns out the cat wouldn't eat so they tried to feed her and she shredded them. The cat looked very ill and it seemed as if she wasn't going to make. But we got home;she sauntered up to her food dish started eating while emitting siamese growls every other bite to show how annoyed she was and live to be 25 years old. She was however, banned from the kennel. We hire someone to peek in on her and make sure she had food next time and clean the kitty box ...very particular about that she was. I have four dogs and three cats...my kids keep bringing them home.

(16,377 posts)Most dogs can tolerate kennels but not kitties; they get too stressed and then they get sick. Such different animals all around.

(34,136 posts)And the younger (comparatively speaking) vet that took over did despite the fact that she does NOT like cats. She's given that up since the other vet retired - she simply does not carry the vaccinations and treatments for cats - horses and dogs, yes, not cats. When our old cat needed to be put to sleep, she did that for us so we did not have the stress to us and the cat carrying him off.
I need to find out if the vet that takes care of the other people's horses will treat my cat. He's behind on his shots - with all my health problems and deaths in the family I have not been able to get him to any vet office.

(68,556 posts)vet. Mine are indoor cats as my neighbors don't like cats or so I was told by another neighbor.

(68,556 posts)Miska made a 'homeward' bound attempt and almost escaped so the kennel owner let him stay in her house with the dog.
