Can someone tell me how to copyright my book?

I am self publishing my book of art essays that appeared first here on DU. I sent Skinner an email asking if there were any copyright issues involved with DU and he said no. But I have a friend who self published his book of poetry and he said I should copyright my book to protect my essays.

My daughter is doing the design and layout of the book, which is a real labor of love on her part. Her cover art is fabulous, if I do say so myself...

You may also want to apply to the Library of Congress for an ISBN number if you would like to sell to libraries and bookstores. There should be an explantation and forms for doing this on the LoC web page.

I presume I will get a form to fill out and just send it to them with the title of my book and my name/address.
