(40,416 posts)I normally despise films about actors and acting. It's too much for me, normally.
My two exceptions are All About Eve, and Singing in the Rain, the latter which also qualifies as an exception to my opinion that Hollywood musicals totally suck. But I digress...
What sets All About Eve apart are two things. First, the script crackles; it's really phenomenal. Second, the supporting cast is extraordinary, too many standouts to mention them all. The fact that the latter includes Marilyn Monroe, in an early role as Miss Casswell, speaks volumes. But consider especially George Sanders, Celeste Holm, and one of the great character actors of all time, Thelma Ritter.
All About Eve was justifiably lauded. And yes, Bette Davis was wonderful in it. (Not a big fan of Anne Baxter, however.)

(2,252 posts)It worked for Jose Ferrer when he tossed it in Fred MacMurray's face. "Here's to you Mr. Keefer. I'll be outside if you want to do anything about it. I'm a lot drunker than you are so it ought to be a fair fight."

(26,267 posts)'The Caine Mutiny' is one of those movies I try to watch, every time it airs.
Most people think of Fred MacMurray as Steve Douglas in 'My Three Sons' show. I always think of Walter Neff, from
'Double Indemnity' and Tom Keefer from 'The Caine Mutiny'. He played a magnificent cad.
