what's your favorite beach...and why?

X - posted from my Dkos diary

“What’s YOUR favorite beach and why?

I love Sandy Beach on O’ahu. Less than a half mile long the swimmable section has lots of parking and a strong onshore trade wind most of the time. And it is known for its wicked shore break. On a small day its loads of fun to get smashed around but as the surf gets higher the thrills are heavier and the danger of serious injury grows rapidly. Mostly though it’s a great hangout with modest crowds except on big swell days when it is quite crowded.

Weirdest thing I saw there was a group of beach goers having lunch with silver tea service, cups and saucers and ever so elegant scones and jam. The scones were fabulous. I baked them myself.

So, what’s your fave?

right by the greatest beachside restaurant. We had the biggest steaks for lunch. Palm trees. Body surfing. Warm waters. And cervesas.

My favorite beach is part of my town, Manhattan Beach. Here's a couple of photos from there:

I spent my first year of college - 1970-71 - in St Pete, Florida and that was the place to go.

Beautiful white sand beaches and since the park was relatively new, it was not well known and there were few people there most of the time.

I don't go to the beach much and most of the Gulf Coast beaches in the Big Bend have been developed now but I would vote for any beach between Sopchoppy and St. George Island, if not the beaches on the island itself.

I spent a week in Destin at a classmate's family beach house.

Lots of bud, good times, and walking along the shoreline after dark -- the phosphorescent organisms in the sand lit up our footprints. It was magical.

Not quite the same these days, since it has been discovered. But the beach is stilll remarkable.

It was great, enjoyed watching the (mostly) labs body surfing in the waves chasing frisbees and the others (took a photo of a very cute bulldog) lying on blankets with their people. I wished that I'd had my own dog with me. And these beaches are becoming more popular - Lake George, NY, just north of me, has opened their own dog beach...

on the way back from my parents place in upstate NY to Maine where my sister lives (then I take the train back to Boston from there). The Adirondacks are so beautiful and I just love the lakes up there! They have a particular smell to them that is just so comforting to me and unforgettable! That's so great that they have a dog beach there now! I love watching dogs play in the water!
