New Year Resolution:
Change the damn donkey to a Mustang.
Why? Since Democrats have proven to be galloping into the future with greater poise and intelligence (best with the economy, most committed to public education, most consistently backing worker's rights, civil rights, the environment, etc).
Let's get innovative, beginning with the psychic rush of having an icon associated with the American frontier spirit. These are very independent horses not the snooty Thoroughbreds and Quarter Horses.
Some online comments on Mustangs:
"I have mustangs of my own and once you get their trust they are they are very smart horses. I've had other types of horses but after I got mustangs I will never go back to another type of horse, because to me they are the best horses out there."
"To me at least, besides the fact that mustangs are the embodiment of our ideas and the spirit of the wild west, they are one of the most enduring and intelligent horses ever. They have survived without our help for as long as they have existed..."

(6,288 posts)The symbol represents a party & includes its incredible history. The hard won fights for all people. It's history doesn't need to be replaced by a cool shiny new symbol.
Leave it alone.

(6,043 posts)Trump represents a break in our democracy. We did not elect him in a free election; he was not appointed in accordance with our Constitution.
He should never be seen as just the 45th president in a line of presidents.
The Donkey was our symbol up to 2016 but now its going to be a new age and a new symbol is appropriate. Honorably retire the Donkey and let it be the age of the mustang. Keep them both in the imagery.

(2,275 posts)...and a new symbol can brace the Democrats for a massive leap forward. It gets us imagining possibilities again, just as we did on the frontier where the mustang roamed. So much is changing in technology, women's rights, civil rights, new conceptions of physics, emergent biology, emergent governance. Democrats in 2018 can take the mustang by the mane and leap forward!

We are truly in a revolutionary period and we are going to keep the faith and make sure that government of, by, and for the people is not going to perish from this earth.

(15,805 posts)and very protective. As far as symbolism goes, the horse is often used to denote the pampered luxury of the rich. Unlike a horse, the lowly donkey is a beast of burden, and like most Dem voters, they work hard with little training, and survive on very little.
I've had both horses and donkeys, and the donkey is a much more fitting icon for Dems than a horse.

(2,275 posts)It's not a quarter horse for the rich. It's a highly independent pioneer symbol.
