2. Buika - Las Simples Cosas (Simple Things)

One says goodbye senselessly to small things
Just like a tree in autumn
sheds its leaves
In the end sadness is the slow death of the simple things
Those simple things that will stab you in the heart

One always returns to the old places
where we loved life
and then understands how
beloved things are absent

So don't depart now, boy,
dreaming of returning, for love is simple
and simple things are devoured by time

delay here in the greater light
of this mid day sun, where you'll find
the table set, with bread in the sun

So don't depart now, boy,
dreaming of returning, for love is simple
and simple things are devoured by time

6. Madredeus was little known outside Portugal until 1994

Formed in 1985. Their music combines traditional Portuguese music, sometimes erroneously associated with the subgenre of fado, with influences of modern folk music.

They released several albums and became very popular in Portugal, but remained relatively unknown abroad. This changed in 1994 when Wim Wenders, impressed by their music, asked Madredeus to perform in his movie Lisbon Story - the soundtrack gave the band international fame. Madredeus consequently toured Europe, South America, Africa and Asia.

I went to high school in the Azores, a half century ago.
It was medieval and serene.
This music is like the ocean itself, a melancholy, that speaks so much about love and loss.
The essence of life.
