For me, I've gotten into Open Water swimming competitions. Never won anything, not even for my own age category. Typically I always finish in the middle of the pack. Absolutely average.
But damn I do get a thrill out of it whenever I do it. Whenever I come out of the water, I just feel so accomplished. And then I sort of linger in the afterglow for several days afterwards. "Yes, yes I did just swim a mile in heavy surf, thank you very much."

But it's still fun.

I have no desire to compete and am making progress slowly but I still love it and can pile up lap counts I never would have considered possible back when I was a mere lad of 67.

(I was gonna say guitar, but even though I'll never be anywhere near as good as I want to be, I'm still not half bad. I can't shred, but I bend strings like a champ. I can make that fucker sing.)

(17,003 posts)I love to sing and even took voice lessons for a short time many years ago. It helped, a little, but the effect has clearly worn off. But heck, it's just me in the car so might as well go for it.

That and playing my guitar. I have teeny hands and short arms. Bar chords have given this ole lady carpel tunnel lol

I have a wonderful old 1918 Gulbransen upright grand player (what I call a "Sunday school piano" that has great tone. My repertoire is limited, and some days I make a lot of mistakes, but it's a great outlet.

(395 posts)I'm in a bowling, soccer, kickball league as well as a golf group.
Only kickball league I'm consider good and that really not a sport for competition. I was good in my hockey league, but had to stop due to injuries.
However, if there is a sporting pickup game in the area and I'm invited, I'm there.
