The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsThose of you who have been around a long while may remember my Althea
She's been with me a long time. I got her back in Dubya's first term at a time when I was still very active on DU. It was in August of 2004 when I first brought her home.
She's been sick for a long time now. She passed away in my lap today. RIP Althea.
She will be very sorely missed.

I loved you so -

(6,811 posts)I like to think they play among the stars when they leave us. Sweet journey on your way to your starry playground, Althea. She was beautiful and cared for. I know how heavy and sad your world is right now.

(54,770 posts)like Althea. Same markings, pink nose, and facial expressions.
Scares me every time he moves a little slow, coughs, or just looks a little tired. It will be very tough when he's not here to jump in my lap.
Even in the worst moments, we are both lucky with our cats.
Take care of yourself.

(11,803 posts)I'm sooooo sorry! She was a beauty! I've lost three over the last 7 years. Know that you're not alone and you can find a member on this board to talk you through (me self included). Be glad of the time you got with her... no matter how short or how long. Tell us dome stories when you're up to it. It'll help.

(24,753 posts)Althea was special though, she'd been with me longer than any of them except Quinn (who is still around and older than she was).

(11,803 posts)I was allergic to cats and dogs when I was a kid. My wife had to have a cat (girlfriend at the time) and I kept my distance. She broke my allergy and we got a Russian blue kitten who loved alcohol (would drink beer off my wife's fingers and literally drank out of a glass of Southern Comfort because I wasn't paying enough attention and never thought my Squeeker would do that!) and weed ( couldn't keep him out of my face when I was burning). He was the first animal I had that was mine. We clicked, he loved his mama, but I was his and he was mine. At four years old he was diagnosed with a congenital heart problem and died not long after. I was devastated. I'll probably never get over the guilt that I Foster for crying harder for a cat than my own grandfather. But, the pain will pass, I promise. And now, there's room for others! As crass as that may sound in the moment (know that's not how I mean it).
If you need a shoulder ET, I'm here. Just drop me a line.....

(34,135 posts)I remember her, she was such a pretty girl. It always hurts so much, I wish there was a way to take away some of that pain.
I have not seen you in a very long time. I hope all else is going well for you.
Again, I am so sorry.

(11,572 posts)I had a beautiful little female with the sweetest disposition die in my arms. It was absolutely awful.
What I take heart from is that it was better for her. No stranger poking her, no stainless steel table. Me holding her as a 5mg dose of morphine switched her off like a lamp.
I did the best I could for my little friend, and I know you did, too.

You shared happy times and the trust that is unique to a person and their beloved animal friend. How awesome is that feeling?!!
