...glycerin eyedrops cost $8.69/oz and carboxymethylcellulose sodium cost $15.49/oz? This is at CVS. Most eyedrops were in the $30-$40/oz range. What's going on here? Many CVS brands were in the high range.
My question is why something as simple as salt water would cost 3 to 5 times more than more exotic eye drops?

(10,749 posts)Great product. Small container is equivalent of $93.69/oz.
Glenmorangie 18 Years Old "Extremely Rare" is $100 for 750ml, or $3.94/oz.
Definitely not an apples to apples comparison, but a bit of an eye opener.

I have another suggestion on a 'deal'. Have your eye doctor write a prescription for NaCl ampules used for asthma inhalers. A large box from the pharmacy of over 100 individual sterile ampules is about $45.00. It will last you a very long time.

(2,302 posts)I have dry eyes and I use TheraTears Dry Eye Therapy. Whatever preservative might be in there, it doesn't bother me, and they come in two sizes...I think the bigger one is about $12. Comes with a $1 off coupon in the package.
OR, you could buy salt tablets and make your own with purified water...that's what I used to do in the 70s for my contact lenses.
