The Amish completed our long awaited new roof. Thanks to those who watched with me.

(2,854 posts)Do you get snow?
LakeArenal
(28,871 posts)We are sitting out for the first evening since the roof. (Incidentally, we cant hear the rain hitting the roof) Anyway the squirrels are trying to jump from the trees to the roof, as they have done forever, and as they hit the roof, they slide down and their little nails scratch trying to stop.
No lives have been lost tho.

(61,712 posts)I guess the snow that hits the roof will end up away from your front door and steps.

(6,931 posts)Very nice. I see a little green on the trees. We are pretty much leafed out here in East TN, it was 85F today.

(28,871 posts)Im a bit later than most because of our location in what I call the armpit of the bluff. So we tend to thaw out later than our neighbors.
But its georgeous. My favorite time of year.

(11,803 posts)I too have an A-Frame. Although mine is a double (cross shaped). I'm gonna hafta replace my roof in the next few years too. Wondered what steel would look like. Love it! Holding off as long as I can because the tear off is gonna cost a fortune. The previous owners put asphalt shingles over the existing cedar shake.....
But, now i've got an idea of how the steel will look. Mucho appreciado brother! (or sister)
Congrats! Looks amazing!
LakeArenal
(28,871 posts)It was way cheaper than a tear off and reshingle. Around here metal is the way of the future. Our Amish fabricate their own metal. So pretty much custom and seamless.
Thanks brother,
Your sister from another mister. 😉

(11,803 posts)But I'm thinking when its time to do the roof, it'll be time to put in some skylights. You know how dark an A-Frame can be....Sister!
Can"t tell you how much I appreciate the post. Really gives me an idea of what my pad might look like. Funny how a simple post can help someone else out, ain't it?

(28,871 posts)Put in sky lights even with all the layers.
We thought about that as well when we thought we would stay forever. But ten years ago we decide to pack it all up in the next couple years or less to move to Costa Rica. Hence my user name. Visualization.
Yes there are inherent problems in decor and other things in an A. But its the best when someone says its like nobody elses. Although that can go either way. But I choose to think they like it. 😃

(11,803 posts)All tongue and groove pine inside. Consequently, you can be like Appleby's with stuff on the walls, stuff on the ceilings, etc. We've got a nautical room, a rock room, a Hollywood room, a celestial bathroom, an African room (we put Santa hats on our African masks at Xmas ) Much harder to do with drywall.....

(28,871 posts)We solved art installations by using the frame locks they use in hotel rooms.
We love it here, too. 34 years to date.
BTW we are thinking of starting another lyric challenge this weekend. You around?

(11,803 posts)I have multiple friends that say our house is the coolest house of anyone they know. And, I'm all about the cool...
Unfortunately, I've got a lot of work to catch up on. Spent 7 years in a traveling band that broke up as we were nearing an actual living at it. Lots got neglected during that time. Shoulda bought a damn condo....

(7,539 posts)Does leaving the asphalt shingles maybe deaden the sound?
LakeArenal
(28,871 posts)We do have pretty good insulation, too
Good thing because that sound would freak out our old pooch.

(3,557 posts)Ive seen them mimic all sorts of shingle, slate, and clay roof styles. It might be s little more expensive, but there are s lot of choices in steel other than long sheets.
FWIW, the roof on this guys house looks good.

(11,803 posts)I want to see some pics of an A-Frame with a faux slate steel roof. Anyone here got one?
Victor_c3
(3,557 posts)You better get that fixed!
Other than that, looks great. I never knew you could get the Amish to do work for you. The greens, deck, and trees looks nice.
I like the feel of sloped lots and steep roof pitches are brutiful.
You just gotta level out that bench!
LakeArenal
(28,871 posts)But by next week it will be all level with potted plants on it. I promise. 🤗
The Amish will do just about anything. From house work to complete homes. Their wood floors and kitchen cabinets are incomparable.
The flat steel was what we could get and the Amish fabricate.
But yes they make some fine new styles and all of them last forever.
