Mismatched socks?

When one of your socks gets a hole in it, do you throw out the matching sock as well or do keep the other sock and wear it with another sock that doesn't match?

I'm cheap so I always keep the other sock and wear it with another sock that has lost its partner when I'm in my home. When I go out in public, I wear socks that match.

Apparently, some people have strong feelings that it is not right to ever wear mismatched socks even when no one else sees them.

1. My vanity won't allow me to wear

mismatched socks. However, when I buy socks I usually get 6 or a dozen pairs at once, so I always have socks to match, until the whole group gets replaced.

I can't throw out a perfectly good sock. Like you, I wear them at home. There was a time when I was very poor, and it very much bothers me to throw something away that is still usable. Times are a whole lot better for me now, but I haven't forgotten being poor. I'm not cheap, but I am frugal.

This reminds me of the time I went to Home Depot, probably my third store when running errands, and looked down because I dropped something, only to see that I was wearing two different sandals. Obviously I hadn't had enough coffee that morning.

4. I darn them or reknit the part that has a hole

usually it's the toe or heel, so I just put it out and knit that section again.

Store bought socks are great for cleaning, though - if you're done with them (just wear them like a glove)

A novel repurposing I came up with: they are on the hand-holds of my eliptical. It's easier than wiping the sweat off every time I use it.

13. I can't do it

mismatched socks? I'd die from uncomfortableness. Drives my wife crazy - I mostly buy black socks but can't always get the same brand/same cut/same weave and I can't even wear two black socks from different pairs. I have a pile of unmatched black socks waiting for the laundry gods to release the hostage mates.

yeah, no. Different socks is different. Ain't gonna do it.
