Real American watermelons are red with seeds.

Just kidding, we enjoy the yellow ones also.

it is just individual genetics of each variety. All about sugar levels and texture and the particular flavor complexity.

There are hundreds of old melon varieties, and loads of new hybrids - old varieties came in white, yellow, orange, and shades of red from pink to deep red.

It is nice that some modern plant breeding is leading to seedless varieties that come close to the old seeded varieties (if you ever get to try Moon and Stars or Bradford....wow! But they are really large and not easy to find)

But I've never had a yellow watermelon. The yellow is a naturally occurring mutation.
I would bet that the other melons in that bin were red inside. So, I guess I did get lucky.
(First time in a while).
