I miss the master bathroom. We had it redone a few years ago, and I love it - prettiest room in the house, actually. Big walk-in shower with vigorous water pressure, and built-in nooks and crannies for all my hair stuff and body stuff. Plenty of room to stretch out my legs while shaving them (trying to shave long legs in a shower stall is next to impossible). Large recessed medicine cabinet. Lots of storage. Good lighting. A deep soaking tub.
As far as the "homey" aspect of the house, I miss our cats when we are away.

(9,265 posts)I miss our 2 boys like crazy when we travel even though I know their main concern is that the "feeding person" stops by. And our fairly new fridge with ice in the door. Didn't know how much I'd like that feature til we got one.

(8,445 posts)I knew they were well taken care of, but I knew they missed me as much as I missed them. We lost our last guy over three years ago, and the worst part of coming home is still that empty feeling of realizing that he's gone.

don't get me wrong - I love my home, I love the ranch and even this decrepit old house, but traveling away from home...I want to enjoy it, not miss home!

(54,378 posts)We are heading off for our annual vacation on Friday. We didn't even have our usual long weekend together in Spain this past March because both my wife and her mom got that horrible flu that was going round.
We are going to spend four weeks away from home, away from Europe, and away from mostly everything. The only things we have scheduled are three concerts at a tiny local venue. Al Stewart, Mary Chapin Carpenter and Arlo Guthrie. Nothing else on the timetable other than picking up the occasional family member or friend at the local airport (8 seater Cessnas the biggest planes that can land there), and catching as many incredible sunsets from our dinner table as Mother Nature is willing to offer us.

(27,811 posts)Now, I guess I miss being able to watch my sports teams (we have the MLB and NHL packages), and my books, plus being able to cook.
Our apartment is fine, but it's an apartment, and there's nothing in it I'm particularly attached to.

(8,445 posts)I am not a fan of hotels, public restrooms, airplanes, airports, and most restaurants. I know that makes me sound like a hermit. I'm not. I enjoy seeing things and experiencing things. It's just really nice to sleep in my own bed, shower in my own shower, and eat from my own kitchen.

(17,003 posts)Although if I have access to a grocery store it's just the bed. I don't like eating out every meal because the portions are so large. I know, I know, I could always get a go box but when it tastes so yummy it's hard to stop. Don't even get me started on the evil little shits who come by with that damn dessert cart.

(115,686 posts)If I'm away from home I feel a little out of sorts because nothing is mine. The house itself is nothing special - it's small and old - but it's my lair and I'm comfortable there. And I always miss my cats when I'm away.

(34,136 posts)Our shower is really pretty simple - 5x5 foot room, big bench at the back, shower head on one side, handheld spray on the other, grab/safety rails all over, tiled to the ceiling. But it is so comfortable to use and I feel safe in it even when I am unsteady on my feet.
The other thing I miss when we travel is the quiet. It's not as quiet in this area as when we first bought the farm in 1978. Now there are subdivisions all around us. But it is still very quiet, especially since our "new" house is made with ICF walls with great insulation. I can't hear my neighbors much any more and most noise never makes through the walls.

(7,809 posts)I can shuffle around in my jammies, the fridge and pantry have snacks that I like best and are already paid for, the TV stations are where I expect them to be. I know exactly what went into cleaning the place and any dirt is just mine.
Maybe somebody can relate, but I love my own bathroom. It has my toothbrush in my holder and my favorite toilet paper.
