where they raise prices first, then lower them.

(My local grocery store does this all the time.)

At my local Winco (I did the signs when the store opened), and yesterday at that same store the bananas were 53 cents a pound?

They have their own circadian rhythm. Every night, prices go up, and every day they go down. So your grocer isn't lying when he talks about lower prices "every day."

The swing is more pronounced when the moon is full. Of course, then more shoppers have raging hormones and high-flying emotions, so they buy, buy, buy no matter the price -- especially wine, chocolate, and Oreos.
