...but within the SF world, when Analog published it in two long serials, it was instantly recognized as a classic. Finally, a minor publisher, Chilton, who had a small but respectable track record with SF, took a gamble on it...and the rest is history.

A film that was never made yet influenced every science fiction film that came after it.
