He put on a helluva show. His sax player, Alto Reed, damned near blew the roof off the joint.

Stood out all night at the box office the night before and got 4th row seats.
That's back in the day that was still possible.
I'm pretty sure The Fabulous Thunderbirds were the opening act.

on edit -
I meant the night before tickets went on sale. Not the night before the show.
Even in those days before Internet sales they were sold out fairly quickly.

Right or wrong, I always equate pickup trucks with rural, right-wing provincialism. I thought it sullied a great song about aging and memory and regret.
