When you have tacos, do you prefer hard or soft shells? Also what kind of taco?
Personally, I like a hard shell taco with black beans, salsa, tomato, lettuce, cilantro and guacamole.

(9,265 posts)Traditional (or whatever we Yanks call it), seasoned ground beef, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and (lots of) sour cream. Been making them a lot lately as theyre best with real summer tomatoes which will be gone soon

(86,609 posts)my parents' favorites, soft shell corn tortillas. I later came to love flour tortillas when I lived in San Diego. My favorite dish at that time was machaca con huevos w/flour tortillas.

(36,827 posts)Back in the day I used to go across the border and pick up a kilo from the tortilleria for a dime. You cook up a batch of carnitas with some sliced purple onions, chopped cilantro, homemade Mexican crema, and some homemade salsa verde.

(10,098 posts)My favorite big brand stopped making white corn hard shells. I have tried these new hard shell flour ones which were interesting. What else I put in them varies.

MMMMMMMMMMMM!
Thanks.

(90,766 posts)until last, just before the shrooms and tomato. Also, the avocado and tomato blend while cooking to an almost guacamole taste - without all the mixing. Both still separate but blended. Same with all of them really - all blended but all still distinct. I slice my avocado thick but everything can be sliced or diced as thick/chunky as you want it to be.
Adding harder veggies first to softer items.
I forgot to add - add your own favorite taco seasonings. But that is a MUST. To the saute, of course.
I get a jar from the local Mexican food shop. Not spicy or red - just tasty.
Drain the black beans, corn (I use frozen corn, thawed/drained), dice the tomatillo and onions, chop the herb - as much lime juice as you like. S&P to taste.
Make the salsa, do the other prep, get to cooking. Adjust as you want.
I hope you enjoy! These tacos are one of my favorite things to eat.

(21,787 posts). . .with either shredded chicken, beef, pork, or ground beef; lettuce, tomatoes, onions, shredded cheese and either red salsa or jalapeno relish (which I make by simply pulsing a jar of pickled jalapenos several times in my food processor)
And I love to make 'em and eat 'em on Friday evenings, with a cold longneck and listening to Radio Margaritaville!

(12,132 posts)I used to be all hard shell ground beef Taco bell style until a friend handed me a spare Taco al Pastor from a local Mexican walkup taco stand. Oh lort! I don't even like raw onions but i can't even imagine not having them on these tacos. The hot sauce on them makes me cry and sweat and makes my nose run so I basically have to go get them and eat them alone in my car so nobody sees me and it's one of the greatest things I've ever had.

(47,552 posts)...both on the raw onions (hate 'em otherwise, but gotta have 'em on my tacos), and salsa that's at least one step more intense than what I usually go with, something with legs.
One quibble with the tacos in the picture I provided...that's WAAAY too much cilantro.
OriginalGeek
(12,132 posts)who register cilantro as soap. But I don't mind it on these kind of tacos (although yeah, that is a bit much).
I got my mouth washed out with soap so much when I was in day care as a kid that now soapy cilantro is just fucking fine by me.

(7,572 posts)were the first tacos I ever ate. I wish I could make them; I've seen them demonstrated, but haven't been able to pull it off. No one does those at restaurants any more. They are delicious... crispy, but not crunchy if you know what I mean. Filling was simple, ground beef, shredded lettuce, tomatoes, salsa. Now I like them with avocados also, sour cream topping, some shredded cheese.

(32,974 posts)Per twitter. Not like I'll have an issue making tacos again. Todays will be shredded chicken in a 'Mexican style' tomato based sauce, topped with cheese, guac& soup cream.
