The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsSo I smoked my first "Hookah".
And damn, I liked it.
Now, I'm not a regular smoker, I have a cigar or two, sometimes three a month..and sometimes go a few months with out and wonder why are my cigars are so dry, I put them in the Humidor? But part of me is thinking of giving up one or more of those for the Hookah.
My wife and I shared one and I of course deferred to her on the flavor...mint berry, not bad.
Thinking I may have to buy one these, granted it will be used at most once or twice a month.

(3,569 posts)Never even thought of that. Now, put a temple ball in a hookah, now you've got something.

(6,602 posts)Granted I live in a state where it's legal, but until they have more science out on the effects cannabis with prozac and then the effects with BPD, I'm not taking any chances with my wife's mental health.
But enjoying a flavored tobacco in a hookah or a cigar once in awhile, I can do that.

It's harmful to your lungs and of course tobacco in any form is not good.
The harmful degree of some chemicals in hookahs is unknown.
Also, not in this story, but ventilation is an issue. A poorly ventilated hookah lounge here caused a young woman to talk outside and then pass out, winding up with a head injury.

(6,602 posts)Hence our very infrequent use. I know any tobacco smoking in regular use in time will cause cancer....hence, no regular use.
With that said, would like to see more info on smoking cloves, I stopped smoking those, again, very sporadically, because of the myth funded by Phillip Morris that they cause your lungs to bleed. Granted I now know its not 100% true, but haven't read anything from a source to assuage my fears.

(36,877 posts)Provided you aren't inhaling and don't do it all the time it's a pretty benign form of smoking. There's all sorts of options for pipe tobacco and pipes. I have several briar pipes, but use corncob pipes quite often. They are cheap enough to just throw away if you don't want to clean them.

(155 posts)Not only are you inhaling the unfiltered smoke (smoke passed through water is cooler but still 100% tobacco smoke) a wide range of infectious diseases of have been linked to hookah use. A big outbreak of tuberculosis in Indonesian teens a few years ago was directly linked to the practise of sharing hookah pipes.
