Shit. My new clinic manager is a gun-nut and just found out I'm ex-military.

"Hey! You must really be in to guns, huh?"

Had to set him straight on that score. I got the whole gun craziness out of my system in the Army. I don't own guns, I don't like guns, and we need much stronger gun control in this country.

Then, just as sort of a conspiratorial aside, I told him I had been a tank crewman. Once you've shot a tank cannon, nothing else satisfies.

He bugged out pretty quick once he discovered he's not getting a new gun-buddy...

1. Got him good.

I wish that I could have seen the look on his face.

2. What would you do???

If just before a team meeting was to begin, before the supervisor arrived, and a few days after a mass killing with an AR-15 and on the anniversary of the Sandy Hook shootings, a co-worker that had been been bullying you and ridiculing you recently, pulled out his wallet and proudly showed the other members of his team a picture of the new AR-15 he had just bought himself for Christmas? The guy had never mentioned in the five years working with him that he was a hunter, either...

4. You'd think he would have had the good sense not to get into gunz this early in a new job.

Work should be interesting for awhile. Please update us.

5. I presume he's no physician?

Did he ever serve in the military, or is he just a gun-sniffer?

7. No, not a medical provider of any kind.

He's an ex-cop, and has been on the admin staff for a while. He just took over this clinic a few weeks ago.

He does seem to be a very good administrator, at least.

11. When I was in the Army I hated going to the range

I deployed a whole year never fired my weapon but I had to carry it around and not lose it. I would not want go through that as a civilian.

12. I enjoyed rifle marksmanship well enough when I was in.

And, God! I LOVED being a tanker!

But I'm through with all that now. I have no need for guns in my life.

14. That happens to me frequently....

...and working at the VA doesn't help. When I tell them not only am I pro-gun control, pro-choice, and a registered Democrat, they kinda flip out. But one guy, and probably one of the coolest dudes at the hospital, asked me, "You were in the military? What, the Coast Guard?" I lost my shit, and damn near spit green tea all over everyone. We've been buds ever since.
