(1,975 posts)This is one of the great ones, catbyte! Want a giggle? Spouse called - it's only 9 below and I forgot the water jugs so can I bring you lunch.
9 below is easy.
And we always ask!

(26,290 posts)Flint (at least where I live) seems to have lucked out - certainly not the 9" they forecast. Well, lucked out, except for the roads. I guess those are horrible. Fortunately, my car is at the mechanics, so I have no need to find out exactly HOW horrible they are!

(34,451 posts)I'm going by what's on my balcony where it's somewhat protected from the wind. You may get more yet--the snow was supposed to start here about 3:00 a.m., but didn't really crank up until around 6:30 or so. All the schools, government offices, and a lot of businesses are closed. The plows haven't been down my street yet. The snow appears to be letting up some now, though. It's about 3:30 pm. They say it'll calm down tomorrow, but we'll actually get lake effect on Wednesday when the arctic air blows in. It doesn't usually get pushed this far east. I used to live in Grand Rapids and we got dumped on from Lake Michigan on a regular basis.
Now they're predicting rain with temperatures around 42F on Sunday. Gotta love Michigan. No wonder my sinuses are so effed up.
Stay safe and warm!

(32,719 posts)foot and a half drifts in my drive way. I have a couple of friends with plows that are broke down. After shoveling for an hour, I'm about broke down.

(34,451 posts)especially all of the great international restaurants (thank you, MSU!) One of my new favorites is a place called ChiChi and Papa that serves Himalayan cuisine, focusing on Nepali dishes, along with offerings from India, China, Tibet, and Bhutan. Instead of rush hour, we have more like a "rush 10 minutes" around 5:00 p.m. The large population of International students attending MSU makes for a lively, diverse community. We don't get nearly as much lake effect snow as we did in Grand Rapids. And, perhaps best of all, not every other building is named after De Vos or Van Andel, lol.

(34,137 posts)He and Mom spent one winter living in Houghton and he commuted to Lansing. Here's a shot of the rooming house they lived in:
Mom grew up in Central Alabama, Dad in Central Florida. They met in Hawaii at the end of the war. Mom never wanted to be anywhere it might possibly snow ever again after that winter!
