that really bothers me.

Maybe I drive at a speed that simply doesn't attract tailgaters, but they've never been a problem for me. On rare occasions, yes. But not regularly.

I have a friend who when, he sees the light two blocks ahead is red, slows down to about ten miles per hour. I don't say anything when I'm riding with him, but someday he's going to get rear-ended. I think he thinks he's saving on gas, but somehow I doubt it's a meaningful amount.

BUT I look in the rear view mirror and keep an eye on what the guy behind me is doing. So I will probably not get rear-ended.

I learned from an experience on Rte 1 in NJ near Princeton - "the land of the long yellow" when I stopped at a light that I expected to be turning red, based on it having been yellow for a loooong time before I got to it. Luckily I looked in my mirror and saw the guy behind me was NOT expecting me to stop, so I scooted forward enough to just avoid him hitting me. From that time on I always check my mirror when I come to a light where I might need or want to stop.

he rigged a set with a manual switch on the dash.
When he had a bumper humper, he just flipped on the switch and listened for the screeching brakes!

in western PA. They zoom up out of nowhere, and don't seem to react to the time proven hints.

I'll pull over if I need to. Not worth the potential aggravation.

It drives me crazy when I'm tailgated by a truck - especially since I can no longer see! So I'll sometimes pull into a side road just to get rid of them. One time the lights following me were so bright that they lit up a deer right near the road - which was the reason I was slowing down...
