First off, it's purple, a color I detest. Second, before we got married he learned that I do NOT like birthdays. I had a migraine but he convinced me that we "needed" to stop by a friend's house. He had set up a surprise party. While I tried to be nice about it, with my migraine I was miserable and just could not enjoy myself or be very appreciative about the effort everyone made. We left early.

That was over forty years ago and my husband has not tried to give me a birthday party again, even though we were married on my birthday (the year after the unenjoyed surprise party). In fact, he does not plan to ever have a surprise party involving me ever again. He is a smart man and wants to live a long life.
