Do I really have to throw out ALL my old makeup and get new or is this just a lie to get women

to buy more makeup every few years or so?

The store I used to go to for my makeup moved away and now I either have to get basic stuff in the supermarket or order expensive stuff online.

I use only basic stuff but for special occasions I like to do things like eyeliner and mascara plus a little cheek tint.

I'm in my 70s so this is not my number one concern in life. However, when I look in the mirror I really think I could use some improvements.

1. Mascara and eyeliner definitely do go bad. I don't know about the recommended 3 or 6 months. You can

tell when mascara starts to get cakey and dry. You can find really good deals online. Even like Wal Mart. But Amazon, Wish, etc... have great deals you just have to do your research.
Also, I personally think much of the make up that is supposed to expire, really doesn't begin until after they are opened, depending on the product/brand.
You mentioned cheek tint, depending on if it is liquid or powder, powder lasts much longer than the expiration date/recommended usage date.

eyeliner and mascara and a little base. When I'm feeling like it, I use a little gloss on my lips and cheeks. I am very pale and now have started to use products to brighten my skin a bit.

I have noticed how aging women movie stars are made up and they don't look too made up. Obviously, they are, but it is subtle. I watch the award shows regularly .

the answer is prolly yes.

i would be a little, itty bit worried about gooey stuff in/on your eyes. good clean technique would mitigate my worries, tho.

other than that, if it goes on ok, use it.

Other makeup, like foundation seems to deteriorate so I'd keep it a bit longer but still rotate it out.

Powdered blush, bronzer, eyeshadow, facial powder--I don't worry much about them AT ALL.

5. I know for a fact that eye liner and mascara can cause repeated eye infections.

If you just get one, throw them out, get new.

6. I only use a tiny bit of eyeliner on the outside of my eyes on special occasions.

I will stop that. Ditto mascara.

I never get eye infections so I must be doing something right.

Actually, I so rarely use eye stuff at all that I don't think I get credit for that...

7. You know what I think?

And I'll qualify this first by saying I'm 70 years old and female. I think you probably look just fine without the eye makeup and cheek color. I gave up eye makeup about ten years ago. I absolutely hate wasting precious time on that sort of thing now. Plus, I wear glasses all the time now; can't wear contacts any longer, so who's seeing my eyes anyway?

I've always asked myself why is it that men don't feel the need to wear makeup (unless they're on TV)? It's not like they're all so drop dead gorgeous that they can go bare faced, but it would never occur to them to do so. I always wore makeup in my younger years, which now I think is ironic because when you're younger you just look better anyway. I see younger women wearing gobs of it now and I want to go up to them and say, "You would be so much prettier without all that goop."

I have two sisters older than I am and the oldest one always says to me, "I don't have enough years left on this earth to waste any of them on that nonsense any longer." That's sort of my mantra nowadays.

I do wear a tinted moisturizer with a high SPF value, because like you, I have fair skin. The tinted part adds just enough color so I don't look like a ghost. I live in a neighborhood that is mostly seniors, and there are a lot of us who are single and I cannot believe how they are still stuck in that rut of they can't even go to the store for milk until every hair is in place and they are fully made up. In fact, I just heard from one woman friend of mine that two women who are 70 got face lifts recently along with some liposuction and one of them had her lips made larger! At 70! My thought is that they should just be grateful they are alive and well.

Anyway, of course you have to do what makes you feel good. Me, I just want to be fit and strong. I'm working on the strong part. Old backs can be depressing.

8. Get a set of exercises your P.T prescribes and do them every morning for your back. They work!

I never wear eye makeup except for special occasions when I like to "doll up" a very old saying I got from my mother umpty years ago. Like I'll be doing on Mother's Day when hubby is taking me out for a special brunch!

10. Oh, I have had a set of exercises for years...

and occasionally I get into a routine of doing them every day. However, the routine never seems to last long. I get so bored with indoor exercise. I do a lot of walking and hiking because I love being outdoors, but in the really cold days of this winter, I did start the back exercises once again. That lasted until spring came. I've taken yoga classes for senior women on and off because I used to do yoga, so I know some poses and stretches that help also.

I swear my motivation doesn't seem to stay with me for routine stuff unless it's outdoors.

I am down to less than five minutes and it's just the basics. I've never liked base so I quit using that years ago. I just apply a touch of mascara, a little erase under the eyes, maybe a brush of blush, but always lipstick. I'm not sure it makes any difference in how I look but it makes me feel "ready" to go out. Sort of like a ritual.
