The administration invited me to introduce myself.
I am a citizen of the United States and a member of the Democratic Party concerned at the state of the Union.
My handle refers to a town I once lived in. Like much of the Midwest, it has seen better days.
Great place you have here for spreading news and information. Thanks for letting me be part of it.

(11,360 posts)I probably misspelled that.
He was always trying to make it sound scary, when it was just an ordinary suburb.

(18,641 posts)Svengoolie's mentions of the Chicago suburb of Berwyn are met with an audio clip of several people groaning, "BERWYN?!?"

They used to have a car spindle, pop art "sculpture." They got rid of it.

(14,897 posts)The jokes on me. I used to work at a camera store in downtown Chicago. One customer still haunts me decades later. Hed always come in near closing and ask to see all manner of lens caps for obsolete equipment. He never bought anything, but hed keep me busy long enough to miss my train. He looked like R. Crumb and we imagined he was from Berwyn. Now Im old and look like R. Crumb...

Based solely on your great handle and if you enjoy science fiction, you might like Harry Harrisons The Man from P.I.G.
The Porcine Interstellar Guard is just the kind of whippersnappers needed to chase the scaly hides denizens from this swamp we know.

My handle comes from meeting a person my colleagues and I imagined was from Berwyn. We worked at a camera store in the Loop. About once a week, always near closing time, this guy would come in and ask for a Leica 35 Summicron lens cap, used and in mint condition, or similar thing we might have and would need to rummage for in a disorderly drawer in the now darkened store. In the process, one of us would be kept late. Once I found what he wanted. He didnt buy it, either. Back then, he looked like an R. Crumb self portrait wasting my time while my train sped northwest without me. Now, 45 years later, I look and feel like an R. Crumb self portrait. People may think, I hope when Im in Chicago, that Im from Berwyn.

(38,421 posts)Berwyn is located west of the Chicago city limits. If you were to look at a map of Chicago, Berwyn is kinda in the middle, 2200 South of State Street (that is the dividing point of Chicago kinda in the middle of it from top to bottom) look to the direct west of the Chicago border line, and there is Berwyn. If you hit the link below, shrink the image, and it will show you how it relates to Chicago..It is near Cicero, another suburb of Chicago.

Berwyn is a great town. If I remember, it is one of the first planned luxury communities.
I lived in Chicagos Rogers Park and a far NW suburb way back when. I worked in a camera store downtown. Kid Berwyn was our code name for one customer who came in often and looked, but never bought anything. Now that I am old, I am beginning to appreciate why.

As in DU of Old, my intention is to spread the word on the traitors, murderers, gangsters, thieves, crooks, and ignorant politicians in Washington DC and their rich supporters from across the nation and from around the world who threaten our Constitution and imperil our future. This work never ends.
Swirlies a great start. Cant wait for the corrupt bastard to get the rest of his due.

My connection is indirect, coming through a person I once imagined was from Berwyn. I lived in Chicago and worked at a camera store in the Loop oh so many decades ago. The appellation was given to a man who liked to window shop near closing time. We imagined he was from Berwyn, because he took his time and asked for obscure items we could never find. He came in for years and never bought a darn thing. Now I understand that there really is little worth owning, save memories.

(14,897 posts)The camera is one of the great machines of our time. I didnt think digital could supplant film, but the images are amazing. The new sensors can deliver sharp poster-sized prints.
Please dont go because of the clock. Go and capture the public sculpture, downtown architecture, museums, lakefront and amazing people in the City of Big Shoulders.
I grok the clock, though. And the Cubs won.

(14,897 posts)Thank you for the kind welcome! My connection to Berwyn is through the Loop, too. I worked at a top of the line camera store, selling everything from Leicas and Hasselblads to Canon Sure Shots and Pervys First telescope. Most salesmen avoided Kid Berwyn, who liked to come in at closing time when we all were desperate to get out and to the trains or el. Up thread I described him as an R. Crumb self portrait looking guy: His voice sounds, in my imagination, like Iggy Catalpa, the politically correct comedian from Duckman.
