Attention Texas DUers!

I am going to Austin on Friday. Any suggestions of things that I should see / eat / drink, places that I should visit? I am particularly interested in the music scene. So any venues? Record stores? Bars? Breweries?

And Alamo Drafthouse is a definite stop on my list of places to visit. Anything else I should really check out?

COTA is a fantastic track and the spectacle of Formula 1 is something to be experienced!
Austin is a great host city and I'm planning to go back for another.

My brother's wife is doing a job out there and we all decided to go and that is why we are looking for things to do.

Barbecue place with an outdoor stage, usually with rock music. The neighborhood is sketchy since it is near the homeless shelter and drugs are also sold.

Places to see would include Mt. Bonnell which overlooks Lake Austin. The west side of Austin is scenic since it is on the edge of the Hill Country.

It looks a bit seedy, but I've never worried much even walking around there.

along 6th St. at night. Plenty of music and things to do. Check out Esther's Follies for a great comedy variety show. I loved it last time I went.

If you are near the Congress Avenue bridge at sundown, the bats come there to roost at night. Lots of people-gazing as people exercise, but note that you should either do that early in the morning or just before dusk.

If you are south of the river, then I recommend the Continental Club and the Saxon Pub. I lived north of the river though.

spring fed and very cold. It is one of the largest spring fed swimming pools in the country.

Bat flight at the Ann Richards Memorial Bridge.

Visit Hamilton Pool outside of town.
