(4,919 posts)... Picard will take place in the year 2379.
Firstly, I sincerely hope our society would have stopped cropping dogs' ears and docking tails by this time. These practices are cruel, and are outlawed in some countries and places today.
Secondly, I'm a surprised to see the dog appears to be a pit-bull... I would also hope that humans would have stopped breeding dogs for appearance and prizes and moved toward breeding dogs for socialization and intelligence instead. I'm against breeding altogether. ADOPT until there are no more dogs in shelters.
I'd rather see Picard with a super-happy, social, intelligent mixed breed (mutt). I love ALL individual dogs, and think the reputation that pit-bulls have today is unwarranted and based on horrible ownership practices. However, when pit-bulls do become aggressive... they are demonstrably stronger and more dangerous than other types of dogs, based on their anatomy. I'm sure I will get heat for this, but I believe humans should stop breeding pit-bulls purposely... due to their infrequent yet innate lethality.
Patrick Stewart fostered a pit-bull, and it was a lovely thing to watch on social media, indeed. He ultimately had to give her up because the breed is banned in the U.K. I would love to learn what he thinks about the choice of his companion for 'Picard'... I'm sure he had a say in the matter.
