Anyone else grossed out by the sound of people eating in commercials? OMFG I HATE IT!

People CRUNCHING on stuff like chips, or slurping, or whatever? Where it sounds like the mic is an inch from their mouth? YUCK.

In fact, just watching someone shove a burger in their mouth I'm not a fan of ... but it's so much worse when there's EATING NOISES. And the fact that commercials are always LOUD makes it even more annoying.

And even WORSE, it's almost never just one time in the commercial .. they usually beat the eating noises into the ground.

I have to think it's 'works' on some people, but, man ... it sure doesn't on me.

1. Yes, it totally grosses me out!

Another thing that makes me want to vomit is pet food commercials, particularly cat food commercials, that show servings of wet cat food in a dish like they think humans will think it looks delicious and buy it for their cats/dogs.

It is all repulsive looking! Keep that shit in the containers! Nobody in their right mind finds that appetizing! Go for the cute animal aspect, but keep that nasty looking food out of it!

2. Also, while we're on the topic, those "milk mustache" commercials make me absolutely sick as well.

I cannot stand milk and their is nothing more disgusting than seeing someone with a milk mustache. It's so revolting! I can't even bear seeing someone drink a glass of milk, I hate it that much.

6. I don't have that reaction ... unless there's slurping sounds to go with it ...

I don't think I've had a 'glass of milk' since I was about 12, but I use it for cooking (cream, usually, actually) and I very occasionally go on short breakfast cereal kicks and I use milk w/my cereal. I don't drink the milk at the bottom though.

I also love butter and cheese, so ...

11. Yes, I love butter, cheese, yogurt and other dairy products, and even milk in my tea.

But for some reason I just can't stand straight up milk. I have hated it ever since I was a child. My mother always made us drink it at dinner and my dad felt sorry for me, so when she would go back into the kitchen to get something he would drink it for me while she was out of sight. He was such a great sport. I will always be grateful to him for that.

Carrots to brown bag lunches where we had a speaker or meeting agenda. So while someone was trying to get our attention for some important business, we heard CRUNCH dozens of times.

Also, why do so many commercials show little kids with food all over their face? I guess it's supposed to get an "Awww, how cute!" reaction, but it ain't cute. It's gross.

14. I guess you'd probably agree that the Carl's Jr "If it doesn't get all over the place it doesn't

belong in your face" ad campaign was arguably the worst ever?

Damn I HATED those commercials. Not because I'm Mr. Cleanliness or anything, but they always had slurping sounds and showed people eating ... the idea of a mess being produced was also annoying but that part I just thought was freaking DUMB advertising.

Insofar as I could see it triggering people who don't like messiness as well, and make them hate the product for that reason, on top of making people like me hate it for the 'eating' part.

30. Also, they frequently featured hot scantily-clad young women making it look like

eating this messy-ass food was a semi-orgasmic experience. There'd be like meat juice dripping out the corner of their mouth down their chin. Subtle!

I didn't mind that so much lol ... but I could see a fair portion of the population not digging it ...

I do kinda like the Budweiser 'Heroes of Genius' ads though, at least the first 2-3 times I hear each one. It's always the same schtick but it's done well ... esp. the new campaign where they're 'Internet Heroes' ... me being a big nerd and all ... and liking random shit.

17. This is a small part of why I don't have a TV.

I watch plenty of television shows, just not on regular commercial TV. I almost never see commercials. You might want to try getting rid of your television. Trust me, your life will be much better.

Here are three amazing benefits of no TV.

1. No commercials. Among other benefits of not seeing commercials is that you are not bombarded by advertisements that assure you your life would be vastly better if only you purchased this, owned that, made use of this particular credit card. Which means you don't spend time feeling vaguely, or even overtly dissatisfied with your life. That's actually more important than most people recognize.

2. Takes less time to watch your TV shows. By a significant amount. And that time savings alone is worth a lot.

3. No political ads. OMG how great is that??!! Most political ads are of the "Did you know my opponent pulls the wings off of flies? How can you possibly vote for someone like that?" They rarely contain real information about the candidate running the commercial, which is what we all need most.

When I relocated partway across the country eleven years ago after a divorce, there were three reasons I didn't buy a TV. First was that I felt I couldn't afford the TV itself. Second was the cost of cable. Yes, I know I could do over the air broadcast TV, but I vastly prefer the quality of cable if I'm going to have a TV. Third (and while this might seem trivial it was as important as the other two) the cable hookup in my first apartment was right under the one window in my living room. Did I mention I moved to New Mexico after that divorce? And we have VERY strong light here. I'm in Santa Fe, at 7,000 feet, and that strong light means that if I'd bought a TV (like any normal person would) and hooked it up in the only place available, in front of that window, the only way I could watch would be to close the blinds on that one window, leaving my living room in permanent darkness. Really?

I must say (and this is important) that at the time I viewed no TV as an experiment, and even though I'd gone without TV at three or four other times in my life for significant lengths of time (from several months to several years) I assumed that after a bit, especially as my finances improved, I'd go back to regular TV. Around that time I discovered Hulu and Netflix, and then got Amazon Prime. I also learned that TV stations often do live streaming, especially when some major news event has happened in or near their city.

The longer I went without regular TV the happier I was, for all of the reasons stated above. For several years, whenever I stayed in a hotel room, I tended at some point to turn on the TV. But I could never watch for more than 30 minutes, if for no other reason than the constant commercials were awful. Now, a TV in my hotel room is essentially invisible to me.

So, if you've bothered to read through to this point, I am sincerely suggesting you seriously consider getting rid of your TV. And if you decide not to, that you'd rather keep it, trust me, I don't think any less of you.

19. I had been without TV for, I dunno, six or seven years?

when I met the man I married, and was married to for 25 or more years. (Our eventual divorce had NOTHING to do with TV.) He not only had a TV (although it was a small one that wasn't completely reliable) and cable service in the apartment building he lived in. So I got back in the habit of TV.

Several years later, still with that small (maybe 19 inch?) TV we moved to Phoenix, AZ, and had really crappy reception on said TV because of nearby mountains. We'd been in our apartment for a couple of months (this was 1983) when some people came buy offering us some excellent deal on a cable service as they were in the process of installing cable in that part of the city. The improvement in the quality of reception was more than worth it.

Several years later, living in a different city, after finally purchasing a replacement TV which was desperately needed, I let the cable service lapse and we lived with over the air service. Personally, I was fine with that, but other family members really wanted certain cable channels back and so we resumed cable. That was our status quo until my divorce and relocation and what's related in post #17 above.

Again, I understand why many people prefer having cable or its equivalent. But I always want to make a strong argument for giving it up. And I don't mean switching to some other kind of provider where you're still watching regular commercial TV. I do mean giving up regular TV entirely. As I've said before, that doesn't mean you never watch TV shows. Although you probably won't be completely current on whatever you like to watch. But for me, the trade-off has been very worthwhile. Heck, not matter how you might watch TV shows, there is a lot more good programming than anyone can possibly watch. And I'll let you make your own definition of "good programming."

but Panera Bread commercials used to have people slurping the hell out of soup, and it was ridiculously gross!!! Was that supposed to make people want to eat their food?! In fact, I don't eat Panera because of that. Ugh, just thinking about it is making me sick.

I'm sure it can be annoying. Had a friend who while, very polite and mannered, made noises while eating. Never could figure out why she did it, just the way she chewed.

24. I guess I never noticed, since I usually mute commercials

or just mentally block them. I guess I find all of them so annoying that I can't isolate any particular thing as being especially annoying - although prescription drug ads are probably the worst even though they don't include eating sounds.
