It’s a very interesting operation. Various families own one or more ponds from which the salt is harvested. Brine from a natural spring which has been flowing for centuries is routed selectively to the ponds, which are then allowed to dehydrate in the sun. The salt is harvested in layers with the bottom layers producing the highest quality “pink” salt. The entire place has been operating the exact same way at least since the time of the Incas.

After my parents explained making salt to me I thought "That's cool." And after all these years it's still an accessible memory. That's cool too!
