5. No. Feeding yeast to a duck is too proto-serial-killer.

A sign of a very, very sick mind.

6. I read it as the duck ate it accidentally - they didn't mean for the duck to eat it

It was a blue ribbon duck. You just don't blow up your best duck.

3. Bad enough losing an eye, but for the rest of his life,

he'd have to endure people point him out as the guy who lost that eye by a fragment of flying yeast filled duck.

"Hey, there's Sy! Ask him about the duck."

9. How awful!

Why would the man feed his duck yeast? Is yeast a treat in small amounts for a duck?

15. I wasn't sure - I guessed sometime around then because the writing is similar to this:

It's the write-up from the local paper about my great grandfather's unfortunate end (tl;dr version: it wasn't because of an exploding duck )

16. Oh no!!! Your poor great grandmother and grandfather

I googled the article and found this:

Los Angeles Herald, Volume 37, Number 123, 1 February 1910
DUCK FULL OF YEAST EXPLODES; MAN LOSES EYE

DES MOINES, Jan. Rhadamanthus, .............

17. I would usually google something like that, for the backstory if anything

I mean, I know that it's a terrible thing that the duck exploded, and really wish it didn't happen to the poor duck. But, after 110 yrs, I think we can laugh at it a little.

And to underscore to everyone that it's ducks, in general, that make me laugh (even the exploding kind), here's Gus Visser and his singing duck:
