WEST GLACIER - All 50 miles of Glacier National Park's Going-to-the-Sun Road are scheduled to open Tuesday,
allowing vehicles to travel the scenic drive to Logan Pass.
The precise timing of the opening will depend on a winter weather advisory issued for the Northern Rocky Mountain Front,
including Glacier National Park, park officials announced late Monday.
The advisory is in effect through noon Tuesday for elevations above 6,500 feet, with possible snow
accumulations of 1 to 3 inches at 6,647-foot Logan Pass.
Opening the uppermost sections of the serpentine Sun Road is an annual challenge, park officials said,
and the chore was compounded this year by late-spring snowstorms that blanketed the high country.

(38,439 posts)The views along the road are terrific. Beautiful..etc.
go there if you can, it is worth it. But from most major population centers..it is not a short ride..
Going-to-the-Sun Road is the only road through the heart of Glacier National Park in Montana, USA. It was completed in 1932, and it is the only road that crosses the park, going over the Continental Divide at Logan Pass. Wikipedia

(4,450 posts)I've been there 7 times, even though I live 1,600 miles away. The only time I wasn't able to drive across the park was when they closed the road due to fire.

(38,439 posts)That is an additional 350 miles away. That too is worth it.
You are already that far.
Those two places are the trip of a lifetime. The main road through Banff and Jasper is just as incredible as Going to the Sun ..
Just different...You may need a pasport to go to Canada..but most of em (people who live there) are ok....and if you get sick there, they have single payer
health insurance..they (the Canadians) will take care of you...but...go see Glacier National Park and Banff and Jasper National Parks..
You will not be disappointed...No offense to our friends up North..it was a joke..

My dog found some snow on the side of Sharktooth just last week.
