Midnight Oil amplify Uluru Statement with first new song in 18 years
Midnight Oil's first new song in 18 years will be broadcast worldwide as part of the National Indigenous Music Awards this Saturday from 7pm.
Gadigal Land, named for the traditional owners of a large swath of Sydney, is flagged as "a provocative recount of what happened in this place, and elsewhere in Australia, since 1788".

(66,462 posts)1. My brother was a huge Oiler back in the 80's. Couldn't get enough of them.
I discovered that they were a progressive band in the early 2000's, and became an instant fan.
They do some great work...

Peter Garrett went on to some type of government position relating to the environment...I can't recall exactly what. But I saw them in Philly at the Trocadaro and they were great. Their song "Dead Heart" made me want to visit Australia and I later got a chance to do just that. I thought about them often on that trip!
