The original, Simon and Garfunkel, in front of 600,000+ people. Sorry, but I don't get why y'all get off so hard on that overdone crap.

(5,641 posts)However, even Paul Simon liked and noted Disturbed's version, both in a personal email and a later public Facebook post calling attention to it.
Really powerful performance on Conan the other day. First time Id seen you do it live. Nice. Thanks. - Email
In case you missed it, Disturbed did a wonderful rendition of "The Sound of Silence" on Conan this week. The S&G cover also appears on Disturbed's latest album, Immortalized - Paul Simon Facebook

I guess there is room in this world for both versions one unsurpassed and performed by the legends themselves, the other an honest homage to their brilliant songwriting and contribution to the art.

(4,743 posts)To me it feels like it's pandering to the emo kids, and it is clearly AutoTuned to hell and back. For classic rock metal covers I much prefer this, audio only -

(5,641 posts)To think that Paul Simon called Draiman after the set and thanked him for introducing a new generation to their music shows his generosity and understanding that audiences change over time.
It also shows a thought process that transcends petty likes or dislikes and moves more towards a universal love for all people, which was part of the movement to which Simon and Garfunkel were a part of in the 60's.
I stand by my original comment, Simon and Garfunkel are legends and Draiman's cover is a very popular homage to a great tune (110 million views of just the live version alone).

And so is the Disturbed version, which reaches a different audience. That doesn't detract from either one.

(52,257 posts)We figured we were within 50 feet or so of each other and surely saw each other in the crowd as we were both there a long time before the concert itself.
We met 18 years later, in Texas. Some months after that we talked about concerts we had been to and realized we had nearly met so many years earlier.

They also removed the "s" at the end of sounds. Why, I have no idea.

It almost drove me insane, but it might not affect you at all:
To be honest, it's actually a cover of a cover, but one of the original band members of the Tokens is in it, and so is the half sister of Pete Seeger.
