The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsWell I was bite by a spider last week, I am still here.
Don't know what kind of spider but my face did swell.
Looked like someone hit me in the face.
I did take Benadryl right away and then went to Urgent Care.
Everyone watch out for spiders.

(55,025 posts)AKA walapi tigers, and in my house - suck bugs
they are evil bloodsucking bugs that sneak up on you at night right after you turn the lights out. Some people are really alergic to them and swell badly. They are known as kissing bugs because sometimes they get you on the lips. like mosqitos, they are attracted to CO2 and so will fly or crawl towards your breath.
texas A & M lists them http://insects.tamu.edu/fieldguide/aimg53.html

(18,705 posts)What a bug.
The Dr. said it was a spider bite, so I don't know.
Last Friday night was fun.
The swelling is gone, everything ok.
I have been staying out of the heat also.
Damn bugs.

Have these things attacked you?

(55,025 posts)but they are actually not that bad (unless you are allergic) you hardly ever feel them - they don't even buzz or whine in your ear like a mosquito!
I still say the worst thing around here for pain are harvester ants, of course I haven't experienced tarantula hawk sting or rattlesnake bite.

(5,909 posts)I was trimming my butterfly bushes without gloves (won't do that again) and later that day my right hand started itching/hurting on what I thought was a mosquito bite. It really hurt, and on closer inspection noticed 2 fang marks and my whole hand was really swollen.
Later that night my throat felt like when I swallow all my vitamins/herbal supplements and they didn't go all the way down. Like a dumbass, I didn't correlate the two, even though I knew it was a spider bite. The next morning my throat felt the same and I thought I was going into shock so I call my husband and he's like, you'll be fine. He was bitten a few years ago and had to have it drained and was put on meds.
I am somewhat of a hypochondriac but the shit made me scared. My throat got better as the day wore on, and the swelling went down, but you need to them seriously. Then I was researching on the internets (which can be your worst friend at times like these) and kept seeing nasty pictures.
I showed this friend in my neighborhood that has a Phd in Biology and he told me it looked fine and to take a Benadryl, which did help but I was scared.

(18,705 posts)I think that helped keep the swelling down.
My eye started to water, I had some herbal eye drops which stopped that.
I am glad for Urgent Care, the ER on a Friday night would have been a nightmare.
I am still taking Benadryl for the next week, but that is it.
You had a scary story.
Glad everything turned out OK.

(47,675 posts)The only nasty kind we have are those little jumping spiders, the black ones with tiny abdomens and huge heads with two green or blue marks that look like fangs (they aren't). They're the ones that like to walk along your back at night leaving a trail of little bites that will itch for weeks.

(18,705 posts)This is the first day I have been out the heat.
The worst part was when my right eye started to water, couldn't see a thing.
I am not one for running to a Dr. but I did for this.
I look really sad with the right side of my face swollen and eye watering.
Looked just like I had been hit in the face.
