My daughter and her husband do a lot for me. They are financially secure and have all they need. I usually get them restaurant gift cards, which they use and appreciate, but with Covid-19, this year I'd like to do something different. My daughter gives a lot of time and money to the community, so even if donating to the food bank or humane society in their name is an option, I'd like to give them a gift just for them that is meaningful. I'd get them memberships to the local live theatre or history museum, but not this year. I'm going to make her a photobook, such as Shutterfly.
I'm thinking about a gift of the month, but instead of the same thing each month, I'd love to find a service that offered different categories, not just different themes. I saw a subcription for candles, kind of liked that, but even high-end candles don't say what I want to say. I saw a cool idea where you pick cities and each month you get a sampler of food and items from small businesses in cities you picked.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Any experience with any monthly gift subscriptions? Thank you for any ideas

(17,018 posts)My daughter loves McDonalds coffee and I usually get her a gift card for 30 days of coffee. S-I-L doesn't drink much coffee.
I got them Harry and David Tower of Chocolate 2 times this last year.

(28,845 posts)So they are much nicer than a dinner out somewhere that lasts about eight hours and ends in your toilet.

(17,018 posts)My best friend told me years ago to run hot tap water over the cut end of the roses and cut about an inch off each stem while the water is running over them. Then arrange them in room temperature. Almost always helps the flowers stay fresh.
The bouquet he brought me lasted over 2 weeks and dried really nice. I always cut the bloom off and save them.

(86,775 posts)It makes them last a long time. Still change the water often but the highly refined sugar helps feed them. The reason you cut the stems under water, you can do it in a bowl, is because you want water to be what gets into the stem. If you do it out of water, the stem gets air in it and blocks any other hydration after that.
Does that make any sense?

(17,018 posts)She sells Young Living essential oils. She is going to set me up with an initial gift and then maybe a different oil each month. She is checking possibilities.
I got some other gifts ordered last night, which I think they'll enjoy.
Thanks for all of the suggestions. I'm taking notes for others on my list
