Stopped smoking pot in the early 2000’s, can’t even imagine what’s out there now, what with all the crazy names.
Have fun investigating!

ETA: I was just doing some googling and didn’t realize us NOVA hippies of the 90’s are renowned for our lovely Virginia Four Way.
Apparently the Four Way at the shops now is different from what we had. A shame, that.

It’s massively popular and sells out really fast. Sativa, with a very high percentage of THC.

Have your friend look online to see what the store has, then look the various strains up on Leafly to see how people describe the buzz and flavor, etc. It gets a little silly in my opinion, much like descriptions of flavors in wine that I'll never taste. And like many things in life, you get what you pay for.

With a tincture you can choose how much you want to take. It is an edible so it will take 90-120 minutes to get the affect. In the meantime I usually hit my flower Kush.

One of the best I ever grew was called "3X Crazy." It was a 3 way mix of Purple Urkel, Big Bud, and Granddaddy Purple. Spicy taste but it was very potent.

The shop people (budtenders) can lead you into the right direction.

I remember the five fingers baggie days. While most of it was crap there were a few stars. So good I don't think anything available comes close.

The real deal Santa Marta gold was legendary. Oaxaca spears so fine. And a grey Columbian that looked like crap but was damn near psychotic you had to be careful.

And they were all Sativa's grown for decades in remote locations by local shaman types. Once the big money moved in they all disappeared for larger yield semi quality stuff.

I would love to get some original genetics from the old school.

Ridiculous Varieties, display cases, iPads with details on strain. A Budtender will help you find exactly what it is you are wanting or "trying to accomplish" etc etc. THC content on display. Tons of delivery methods, and daily specials on joints, grams, edibles, you name it. It comes in prescription vials w labels - the whole bit.

I kinda miss the days when I used to get a 1/4 bag of Mexi in a cheap sandwich bag I had to lick to seal from my buddy Matt.

It smells like a piney, skunky joint from years ago, nothing too sweet or fruity like a lot of new stuff tastes.

It makes you happy and relaxed and from there you start to feel physical effects. It doesn't give you couch lock or knock you out, but you will want to go to sleep if you're tired and you've been going all day.

It does make you snacky, but if the food is out of reach, you're way too relaxed and happy to even worry about going to get it.

It's uplifting.

and its strong.

I'll drive this home tonight with a Grandaddy Purple indica that will knock my body out from under me.

25. Well, you've got your sativas and your indicas.

Sativa has an uplifting, energizing effect. Not like speed, but more like a strong cup of coffee. Very euphoric, may make you giggly and talkative. Can be useful for making mundane chores tolerable. Downsides is if you have anxiety issues, a sativa may trigger it. It can also make it difficult to sleep for a while.

Indica has a more sedative effect. Also euphoric, but you may end up just sitting on the couch for a while. Good for pain relief, stress relief, and can enhance your sleep. Downside is it may make you lazy, you won't feel like doing much.

Simply put, sativa makes you high, indica makes you stoned.

Hybrids combine the two. Usually starts off with a little sativa rush, then subsides to a relaxing indica body relaxation. Hybrids are often described in percentage terms, say, 60/40. That would mean 60% sativa, 40% indica, giving you an idea of what to expect.

Don't worry too much about THC content. Anything over twelve per cent will get you there, but you may need to use a little more. Some strains have a lot of CBD for a relaxing, anti-inflammatory effect, but may have low THC, making for a mild buzz.

Some strains have a psychedelic effect, making colors and sounds "pop". Great for listening to music or checking out art, also creative projects.

The Budweiser of pot is Blue Dream, an all occasion hybrid that is very popular. There are thousands of strains, and you may need to experiment to find the ones you prefer. My personal favorite is Super Lemon Haze, a sativa with psychedelic effects and citrusy taste.

It’s generally more sedating and calming. Sativa types are generally more “fun”.

so we have been learning a lot. She's tried several hybrids in both vape and flower form and is excited to find out our dispensary will soon have gummies. I do not have a prescription card but we paid extra so I can be her caretaker which allows me to go buy her weed. (She can drive but unless it's bright daylight and not much traffic she doesn't really like to).

She is still in the experimentation stage but has found some things are better for sleep at night and others are better for pain during the day while still remaining somewhat active.

But mostly she likes collecting the pretty glass bongs. (My favorite so far is a Cheech Marin bong with hand-blown glass owls. Can't wait until I can try it!)

She just signed up for a Cannabox subscription last night - a monthly box arrives with all kinds of cool paraphernalia. I was sad to find out we didn't find out in time to get in on the box that included a VW Microbus glass bong. But she got on the watch list to be notified if new ones became available.

I will add that she hasn't had t take her leg pills in almost 2 months - one of her issues was pain from restless leg syndrome and it used to be crippling for her to be out somewhere and not have her pills with her (she took them every afternoon but if she waited too long it didn't help her through the night. SO that and back pain meds have been eliminated. We figure less pharmaceuticals in her the better.

and get a mix of CBD & THC. You will get health benefits from the CBD and the sublingual gives you an effect within minutes, plus you can start slow. Sublingual bypasses the digestive system, which takes much longer for an effect and you risk taking too much.
