Anyone have experience with scar treatments?

I fell with a stoneware mug in my hand 9 days ago and got a rather deep cut on my wrist. Went to an urgent care clinic and got 4 stitches. I got the stitches out today, but developing scar seems rather raised. Normally I don't scar much, but I was wondering if anyone had any luck with ointments like Mederma or the silicone patches.

I've seen it work on old scars. Give it some time, I've had scars take a few months to "flatten out". But if it is in a bad place where it is irritating or in danger of being re-injured, use the merderma as soon as you can (i.e. the wound is completely healed). My wife has used it twice, once on a scar on her face and it completely healed. Now of course that scar was from the work of a plastic surgeon (biopsy scar) so maybe it was all him. But HE recommended it so...

My spouse and I have had success using Mederma, but that doesn't mean it will work for everyone. They are trying everything to address upper neck pain and all of the "sure" treatments are not working. We know the frustration of "what has worked for others...'

last surgery I had they told me just to use vit e oil. I think gentle stretching/massaging and moisturizing is the important not the product.

who treated me after my last hip replacement worked on the scar and told me the massaging was most important. I used a product I bought on Amazon: Selevax Intensive Scar Cream which I had good results with on my knee replacement scar.

I think it was for a large surgical scar from Mohs surgery to remove a basal cell carcinoma from his arm (but frankly, it could have been from some other surgery). But I recall that he was given some kind of gel type patch that was supposed to help with the scarring. My recollection was that they told him to cut it in half or fourths to change every x days, because it was expensive. At any rate, it definitely helped.

I’m sorry I don’t recall the name but I will try to look for it.

But some things always work!

Keep the wound hydrated and protected. Keep it clean with soap and water and protect the wound with Vaseline.

Your body's immune system will take care of the injury.

It should take 1 to 2 weeks to clear up.

Good luck!

rub it in. Also about 3 caps a day internally (say one at breakfast, etc)

I scar easily, from the slightest injury, but the E truly helps.

Those scars are real whoppers. My doctor suggested Vitamin E. I just got the pills at a pharmacy, pierced them with a pin and spread it on my scars. It really did work.
The scars went from red and raised to thin, pink ones.

It really helped more than topical treatments. I’m fair skinned and scar easily.

It can be found in some large grocery stores, Target, Walmart, and other chain stores. That price on amazon, however, is about twice what I pay at my local store. Two 4-ounce jars of the cream are shrink wrapped together, and sell for less than $4.00 at the big box stores. The cream is good for scars, healed burns, sunburns, and the dry, cracked hands and feet I get during winter months. Hope this helps!

The swelling likely will subside. You can rub vitamin E into the scar a few times a day.

They took out 26 lymph nodes in neck to determine spread.....and if radiation or chemo needed. She got lucky, only a tiny bit in 1 node. No radiation, no chemo, 3 years later, still cancer free.
Her dr recc'd Mederma....expensive, but worth it. Have Vitamin E and almost a health food store at home....
She uses the PM version, but also important to shield from sunlight.
It took her neck a year and can't see scar now hardly at all.
Mederma works. Her doc is at UT Southwestern in Dallas.
