I'm addressing my Xmas cards a bit different this year.

Instead of addressing them as, for example,

“Mr. and Mrs. Joe Biden,”.

I’ll address them as:

“Jill and Joe Biden“.

(Of course, if I were really sending the Bidens a card, I would send it to “President-elect Joe Biden and Mrs. Joe Biden” or something like that. )

It's 2020, there is no reason to use an antiquated and sexist signature. Her name is Mrs Jill Biden.

has been the standard format for a very long time.

Just go back and look at things like PTA minutes from even the 1970s and you'll see things like: Mrs Henry Jones and Mrs Ronald Smith whatever whatever.

Women typically not only changed their surnames, but in a lot of situations were known as Mrs his name. I always thought that was creepy, even though I grew up with that.

I am constantly surprised that so many women change their name when they get married. Even these days.

I always address cards with the woman's name first. Have been doing it for decades.

Very few people know or practice that, though. Mr and Mrs. Joe Biden. Dr. Jill Biden and President Elect Joe Biden. Jill and Joe Biden. All would please Emily Post (who wrote the book on etiquette).

I have family members who are dentists, physicians, PhD's, reverends, etc. Your method cuts through the muddle.
